First layer not sticking
Hi
I just got my I3 MK3 and made a couple of beautiful prints. But now, the first layer is not sticking to the bed, and the nozzle extrudes like bumps of filament. i've tried recalibrating the first layer, cleaning the bed, but it doesn't work.
Please help.

Re: First layer not sticking
I was having this same problem off and of this week. I'm in a very hot environment, which might also be contributing.
I had run Z calibration many times and thought I needed to get really close to the bed for things to stick. But whenever I tried to do a raft, first layer would catch the nozzle. I assumed this meant it needed to be closer to stick to the bed better. But really, I was way too close. I raised Z up (almost a half mm), to the point where it was barely deforming the layer at all, and the ends of each row were peeling up. Somewhere in the middle I found the sweet spot where the edges aren't curling, the middle isn't catching, and there's just a tiny sliver of bed visibly between each row on the first raft layer.
Re: First layer not sticking
And now that I've tried to offer advice, I can't get any prints to start tonight. Nothing is sticking to the bed and everything wants to climb up the nozzle. It's 35c in here so I am going to hope it's the high ambient temperature and try again in the morning.
Re: First layer not sticking
Hello All,
I have had some of the same issues starting out. My first printer is a MK3 with the PEI sheet. My fix for PLA is to use glue stick on the sheet before I print. Elmer's glue sticks with the purple glue works the best. It cleans off with water, and you can see where the glue is because it is purple until it drys. I have not had much luck with getting anything to stick to the bare sheet, it all breaks loose on the first few layers and gunks up the nozzle area.
Re: First layer not sticking
if adhesion gts bad, I clean the bed with dish wash detergent and water, rubbing it into the PEI surface with a sponge with
scotch bright surface rinsing clean and drying with a clean paper towel...
works for me...
