Hello,

On my MK3S, which I purchased in 2020, during the first layer print, the filament seems to overheat intermittently, resulting in a “liquidy” surface.

I’m using Polymaker PolyTerra PLA Sapphire Blue with a first layer temperature of 200°C (the rest of the print uses 190°C) at the standard first layer height of 0.20mm. I’ve applied hairspray to the print bed. I also ran the PID tuning calibration before the print and dehydrated my filament for several hours.

Any ideas why it’s doing this? I’ve been having problems with this particular colour of filament (as well as a marble white). The red filament of the same type worked fine.

I had an issue this summer of my thermistor failing and causing this type of issue.  My thermistor was saying one temperature.  When I read it with a different thermometer it was about 50 degrees higher.  It did take my print head out.
