First Layer Calibration = Nothing and then a Mark

I just finished building the kit and running through the calibration tests up to the First Layer Z test.

I ran it and it went through its Z patter and... Nothing.

So, I (possibly horribly incorrectly) assumed that it was too high.  So I started lowering it.  A whole other pass later and I was down past -1.000 and it was still doing nothing.

On the third iteration I got it down to -1.500 and finally started seeing a line, but it looked ludicrously thin, so I backed it off, but the line didn't get thicker, it just went away.  Cleaning the sheet confirmed that all I was doing was rubbing the sheet.

So, what now?

-1.5 is still within acceptable range, you are OK until -2

Try again, if you are unsure of the result post a picture  and ask again.

My point is I never saw ANY filament come out.  The grey line was the tip rubbing against the steel sheet.

Is there an edit post button?  I would have just edited the last one.  Anyway, I went back and started the recalibration process, since I figured there was a good chance that since I wasn't seeing filament that I hadn't loaded it correctly.  So, I did that and now I have filament, but it is Really High.  It didn't even make 90 degree angles, it cut across them.  But, PROGRESS!  So, I will let the sheet cool.  Clean it, and keep spinning my way down.

@joe-b

OK, I misinderstood; as most people start with the 'silver', filament a grey line is expected.  So: as you are marking the sheet at -1.5 expect your live Z to be around -1.25 to -1.3.

Keep at it, you will get there.

I got it working... I thought.

The PRUSA plaque looks fine.

Buddy is a good boy, yes he is.

But, the Tree Frog lost both front legs above the elbow.  It is like those layers didn't adhere to the ones below.  On both sides at the same layer.  Try again?  Change something and try again?
