First layer calibration and Z calibration

I'm trying to get through the first layer calibration on a newly built I3 MK3S, but the filament never sticks to the print bed. It looks like the nozzle is way too high, but using the live Z adjust I have to crank it below -2.00 to get anywhere close (I haven't really gone beyond, since the manual says I'd be doing it wrong).

I've tried adjusting the PINDA probe, but after adjusting it over and over I'm now getting a bed leveling failure when trying to do the first layer calibration. I'm cleaning the bed on each attempt, but nothing adheres to it so there isn't really much to clean after I pull off the plastic manually.

The manual in this case says to refer to the knowledge base... but I haven't found anything that has worked for me.

Any suggestions?

I think I got it working. After a couple hours of tinkering with the extruder I was able to get it to print the Prusa logo correctly. Having the calibration tools on the printer was a big help 🙂

And start at the beginning. Build plate preparation.

The smooth plate is easier to get working than the textured one. Fact.

Both start with a good scrubbing with and unscented detergent, followed by drying with a fresh paper towel.

Use no IPA or anything else after this initial scrub. They are for later.

Never let a finger touch the build area. You will regret it...

Now run the Live Z calibration using one of the many calibration STL files.

Post a picture of the result and get some feedback.

Now you can print those nifty samples...
