First calibration nozzle crash

Hello! Thanks for the help. I finished building my new mk3 kit...started the primary checkout and calibration. The machine found all the calibration points and started around again to (I don’t remember the exact wording here) “tighten up” the calibration points. It hit #1 with no issues........then it came to #2 and drove the nozzle down into the bed. Luckily I stopped it before it damaged too much. I rechecked everything, reset the nozzle and probe to make sure it was correct and reset/restarted the calibration wizard from the beginning. It did the same thing Again!
I’m pretty mechanical as I spent my life working on electronically controlled equipment. I just now rechecked my build and ran the calibration for the third time.....including lowering the probe a little. It did the same thing for the third time. I did notice that while it finds the calibration points the first go around, the led on the probe is lit and it blinks when it finds the cal. Point. The second time it goes around to tighten the point locations, the leds stay off.
Help!

Hi Ken,
have you done a factory reset, before attempting calibration...

I had nose dives recently, which went away after factory reset, which suggested that some old parameters are retained over a firmware reload.
might help. might be a false track, but it doesn't take long to test
regards Joan

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

Hi Joan, Thanks for responding to my question. I performed a factory reset with mixed results. If I do a “just built” calibration, it runs all the primary tests then starts the calibration of the test points. It ran through all four corners and tried two more “Iterations”, ending in a fail. I adjusted the sensor down and restarted the whole thing. This time it ran until it got to the second point and started running itself into the bed again.
So.....after resetting, adjusting and even reloading the firmware, I’ve come to the conclusion that I have a defective sensor, main board or the calibration point(s) in the bed are out of spec in some way. I’ve checked the connections, wire bundles and routing, rails and linear bearings, belts and drives....you get the point. I’m really at a loss. I’m certainly disappointed.

Watching my printer do a calibration after a firmware change I noted that at the right hand side of the bed, the Pinda LED was not illuminating at all.

after it failed, I was able to move the x Axis cable bundle around and cause the LED to flicker, demonstrating an intermittent connection in one of the wires of the Pinda.

is something like this happenning in your case?

I’ve been systematically remaking connections and rechecking for free movement. I’ll check to see if I can get the probe to prove intermittent operation. Thanks for the tip.

Joan.t
I ended up purchasing a new probe outright. The new probe resolved the problem. Thanks for your help.
