Filament won't load

Hi all,

today I had some trouble when I tried to print, there was barely any filament coming out of the nozzle. I did a cold pull and everything looked fine, I couldn't see any dirt or remnants on the white filament I used for the pull.

So then I tried to load the other filament back in but it just wouldn't work: it started loading but after a few seconds it stopped and eventually reversed. The tip of the filament looks like it never made it to the hotend. I tried turning off the filament sensor and the autoloading, flashed the latest firmware and even ran a self test for good measure, but no no avail.

I have the MK3S upgrade kit lying around, does it make sense to do the upgrade or should I resolve this issue first?

Any help is appreciated!

I can't extrude any filament "the normal way" because it won't load, but when I did the cold pull and just force-fed it through manually, it worked perfectly 🙁

Are you hearing any clicking or grinding from the extruder gears? Are they tight enough? Mine protrude ~1mm from the left-side cover typically.

Open the extruder door and verify the idler gear in the open door rotates freely and doesn't wobble. That idler can come loose and cause problems.

If you raise Z to max and extrude some filament, does it flow evenly out of the nozzle? You could have a partial clog further up the hotend.
