Filament sensor wiring Error
Is anyone else dealing with this issue?? I just got my mk3 last week and it's taken me some days (after work) to finally finish it. And now this frustrating error.
I've reconnected the cable on both ends and tried the calibration setup. But it keeps stopping with 'filament sensor wiring error.' Apart from the cable, are there any other things I should double check? Or is there a way I can overcome this for the time being? I've already emailed Prusa and tweeted them. 😐
Any thoughts/advice would be great. Feeling super deflated over not being able to print after a week of this.

Ah giving it a shot now. Thanks Joan.
Re: Filament sensor wiring Error
This is the same thing I keep dealing with. I guess I'm trying live chat now. The wires all match up according to the pictures. And nothing is happening.
Re: Filament sensor wiring Error
Looks like I need a new sensor.
Re: Filament sensor wiring Error
i have the same issue. Mine worked when I ran the selftest but a few days later after printing stuff (lots and lots of stuff) I went to turn it on and it says the sensor was not responding. Just for fun I ordered a new sensor just to have as a backup along with a extra heater for the hotend and the thermisitors just to have (I like having spares) I installed the new sensor and same thing. I then went and got my Fluke meter and tested the cable (no issues) must be the board. Got on line with them and they had me take some pictures of the connections and they sent out a new main board filament sensor and cable (was just notified that it has been delivered) Guess I know what I will be doing tonight 😀

Re: Filament sensor wiring Error
For what it's worth, I had the self same issue, right from the start.
They've sent two replacements, neither of which worked, so I gave up. I too checked the cable continuity and triple checked the connections, each time.
Finding this thread now makes me realise I could insist on a new main board. Wonder how many other people have had the same issue and what the percentages are. Seems just sticking a replacement in the post every time this happens is clouding over a potential serious issue that is not being addressed.
I don't suppose for one minute they are going to reveal their stats... ❗
Re: Filament sensor wiring Error
My first filament sensor didn't work either. I finally put in the new one I got a few weeks ago and working fine.

Update: still doesn't work took apart the printer over the weekend and installed the new board wire and sensor and still the same error. Sensor not responding, after that happened I went so far as to remove the board to see if maybe it was shorting out on something and that didn't help. Going to chat with them and see what they think is the issue. At least this is nothing that stops the printer from printing.
Re: Filament sensor wiring Error
I had exactly the same issue. Got a new sensor and the same result - Filament sensor wiring error.
Out of despair I took a close look at the cables and connectors and then spotted the error:
The white wire on the main board connector was connected to pin #1 when it should be connected to the pin #2.
Releasing the wire and reconnecting it to the correct pin resolved the issue.
I guess this happened for the whole batch of connectors and this is one of the reasons so many people complain about filament error.
Re: Filament sensor wiring Error
In my model is the same problem.
I checked few times cables connections and I made sure that:
- main board is connected to the lower row with with cable on the second pin from left (first one is not occupied)
- sensor is well placed and pins are not damaged or cranked
I did it 6 times and still without effect.
Waiting for reply from support 🙁
Re: Filament sensor wiring Error
I'll toss in my 2 cents. Had this problem during my first boot up. My board came with the new orange alignment clip which is installed into the mainboard sensor jack. After checking the high rez pictures in the online manual, I found my error.
There are two rows of pins in the mainboard probe jack. I was simply relying on the new part to align the sensor wire, and I was plugging into the top row of pins. The probe wire needs to be plugged into the BOTTOM row of pins. Simply angling the plug at a downward angle while inserting, allowed it to connect to the bottom row. Solved my problem.
So, try making an effort to ensure the plug is seated on the bottom row of pins.
Cheers,
Chris

Ha, I made the same mistake. The aligner doesn't do a great job of aligning. My guess is it does enough to prevent the probe from being damaged by incorrect wiring.
I left a comment in the manual suggesting a note that attention must still be paid with the aligner installed, but so far they don't seem convinced.
