Filament not feeding . pulley doesn't seem to move?

I just completed the assembly of the MK3S and got through the calibration (yay), but the yay ended when the first layer print came.

It appears that the filament is not pulled deeper into the extruder, so the printer is printing but releasing no material  through the nozzle. Heating is working fine.

There is a sound as if the pulley were trying to move, but it my impression is that it doesn't seem to be moving at all. I disassembled and re-assembled and everything seemed fine, the filament is slightly inside the tube. But there is no grip. It's like stopping at 99%.

As an addition: indeed, the pulley is not moving at all, I unscrewed the extruder idler and the pulley isn't rotating at all. The sensor is plugged in correctly and I had triple-checked the magnets before assembly. Any idea what else might be the cause?

Hello and welcome to the Prusaforum!

Does the extruder motor rotate? If it rotates - in the right direction? Did you check the plug connections?
Perhaps the idler's spring tension is too low...

To add to the list of things to check - if the pulley is not correctly tightened to the shaft, the motor turns and the pulley does not. The correct sequence is tighten the grub screw on the flat part of the shaft. The trick I use is to slightly wiggle the pulley back and forth around the shaft as I tighten so the it is centered exactly on the flat spot.  The tighten the second screw.

In the end, the cable was not plugged in correctly to the motherboard, hence no power to the motor. Adjusting and re-plugging the cable did the trick.

Now everything is working fine. Only after calibration (and updating the firmware), the printer does not seem to print precise lines. Printing the first layer or the prusa test from SD card shows that the lines are not exact. So the layers are not quite on top or next to each other. Not sure why this is, the self-testing and firmware updates show no errors. 🙁 Nozzle height seems to be fine also.

Check first layer if this is low enough,

Then a clean bed, wash with dish soap, use hot water. Alcohol  does not clean everything.

Check all screws bolts , grub screws on the printer, and bolts by the belts(grub screw), these can slip.

I didn't quite believe it myself, but after re-calibrating from scratch, better cable management and nozzle (not PINDA) height finetuning, the printer now works beautifully. I already printed two parts. Thanks for the help and support!
