Filament Jammed in New Printer

I got a new MK3S yesterday. I had some problems with setting Z and still don't have it solved. I am not at all sure what a ball-park-starting number might be and whether the nozzle goes up or down when the Z number is increased. I'd be grateful for suggestions. I realize that each machine is unique but surely there is a general number to start the process.

More importantly, the filament is stuck in the extruder system and no amount of pulling releases it nor does the process of unloading help. As it is now, the printer will never work. Isn't there some way to loosen jammed filament?

I chose the Prusa because it seemed to be well built, electronically maintained with a large user base and with strong reports of its reliability. Sadly, I haven't been able to print a single object.

Hoping you will have helpful suggestions.

Re: Filament Jammed in New Printer

When you say you got your printer yesterday, we assume that you bought a ready-built printer.
Then you have already done an XYZ calibration at the factory so you don't have to do that.

You start by making a Z calibration to ensure that the X unit is parallel to the frame (Claibration / Calibrate Z).
At the final inspection at the factory, a "First layer calibration" has also been made and adjusted the height of the nozzle above the bed.

What you need to do now is a "Live adjust Z" to fine tune the Z level.
Z-level 0.000 is about 1 mm above the bed (varies depending on the height of the PINDA sensor). Z-level -0.500 is about 0.5 mm above the bed.

You must calibrate the Z level so that the nozzle is approx. 0.2 mm above the bed (thickness of two papers). Depending on the position of the PINDA sensor, your Z-level can be between -0.500 and, at worst, -1,500. (My Z level is adjusted to -0.725)

To loosen the filament, you must first heat the nozzle "Preheat / PLA" or what filament you use. Then eject the filament with "Unload filament".

When you tried to change the filament: did you first warm up the printer or use the LCD menu UNLOAD Filament?

ps: oops - RH already asked this.
