got a brand new i3 kit, sensor not working for me either. I don't really care much about this feature, just wanted to report the new part seems to be not better. I'm gonna report back after trying it out in a bondtech housing

Just found this thread after my auto load sensor refused to work earlier. I printed off the 0.5mm spacer and it seemed to have fixed the trick (awesome thank you), as long as I don't tighten the top plate too much! This caused the sensor to wrongly detect filament being present. I can cause the sensor to trip by pressing on the plate from above.

This was the only thing working for me. 😎 

1 or even 2 spacer didn't work.

As soon as I tightened the PCB de lever got stuck in the sensor the first time loading filament.

Removing the screw gave the PCB enough room to adjust it's position not interfere with the lever.

This is the spacer listed above.  

When you insert a filament does it move the bearing (metal ball)?  If not, you might have your magnets in wrong.

I myself do not want to wait until Prusa revises the complete extruder sensor history. So I took this into my own hands and built a kind of chimney variant with LED status control for my modified BMG extruder:

Absolute zero loading and unloading problems - the LED is very practical and constantly shows me the filament status (0 or 1).

My autoload feature stopped working suddenly after about 20 days (ie 480 hrs) of printing time logged.  I figured it was not due, suddenly, to the spacing of the IR board (i3MK3S built June 2020).  I found the problem was a small piece of filament stuck in the cavity with the bearing (steel ball) which forced the lever into the "filament in" position all the time.  The photos show the disassembled bearing mount with the problem piece of filament, as well as the screws needed to be removed in order to get at this part and remove the scrap.  I hope this might help you too!

I had to "modify" the ir-spacer file in page 1.

It was not thick enough to make the ir sensor detect the filament, I increased it to 0,65 instead of 0,5 mm.

The spacer size 8 x 6 x 0,65 mm.

As a workaround: turn off autoloading in `settings`, and then load the filament manually in `load filament`.

I had the same problem with my MK3S from day one: Filament sensor stuck in true, so I turned off autoloading and activated "load filament" manually when needed.
Problem went away last week when I did the hardware-update and switched to the MK3S+ extruder design. Now it works like a charm.

Thank you @armer_geddon for the spacer.  I was frustrated with Auto Load not working and it was always sensing filament in the hot end.  Your spacer works like a charm!!!
