Extruder(?) clicking during print?

I am printing something and getting a significant amount of clicking of the extruder (which sounds like slipping).  Here is a youtube link showing the print.  Skip to 1:40-1:45 mark to hear some of the most obnoxious clicks.

This was sliced with S3D using a default speed of 80mm/sec, and I am now thinking this is too fast.  I am re-slicing now and retrying with the S3D profile provided by Prusa for PETG filament.  I will post a followup if this helps.

Well - that re-slicing with the slower settings may have solved it.  I don't understand why the 80mm would be too fast, since the "Speed" option in Prusa Slicer does the solid infill at 200mm/sec.

It's very likely to click at 200mm/s. Don't get hung up on speed. Speed is an illusion. There is no speed, only extrusion.

Thanks Bob,

That was an interesting read. ("It's all an illusion, man!")

At least as speed (or rather, extrusion rate) relates to the extruder clicks. There can also be other causes of extruder clicks, but if you're getting clicks mostly when doing high-speeds (e.g. infill), it's worth verifying that you're not simply over-running the hotend's capacity. The other common problem is heat, particularly if you find yourself printing PLA (low melt temps) on a hot day (hot temps), particularly with an enclosure, stuck idler or other problems. There have been a lot of "heat creep" and "extruder click" posts recently that get into these issues.
