Even line spiraling around a round object

Hello everyone,

I am a new and proud owner of a new Prusa i3 MK3 (KIT) and have already produced some very nice prints. Now I have printed a very simple round tin and recognized a line over the whole cylinder. (see image). Now to my question, is this a hardware calibration problem, or is that just a wrong setting in the slicing software?
As slicing software I used Slic3r Prusa Edition in version 1.41.1-rc +. It was printed with PLA (the original Prusa filament attached to the kit) and the settings in Slic3r: 0.20mm FAST, PRUSA PLA, 20% Infill.

I would be very happy if I at least knew if it was due to the hardware or settings, the software.

Many Thanks

Chris K.

Probably a "zipper" line. It is where the print starts and stops for each layer so a tad bit more filament ends up there.

Hello Neal, thank you for your answer. It seams so, because when i watch the printer while it prints than there is a speed change at this position. but is there a way to avoid that? So if I understand you right, you do not think that this is a problem by the hardware or a bad calibration. Thanks

I don't think it is a problem with hardware, software, or firmware. Maybe try to set your slicer for random start points, little more retract when starting a new layer, and a tad bit of z-hop. That should help. The print looks great otherwise so now you are into the "tweaking" stage.

Hello Neal your tip to set "random start points" was the solution. For all other beginners, the setting can be found in "Print Settings" -> "Layers and perimeters". Change the value from Nearest to Random. Thank you for the quick help!
