Depth of extruder screws (on left: M3x40 with springs)

My extruder head clicks and slips on feeding filament. I tried tightening the idler tension screws on left side of extruder unit (the ones with springs). Approximately how tight should they be? With depth gauge of my calibers I'm getting 3mm from the body surface to the head of the bolts.

If you have a MK3S, the tip of the adjusting screw should be flush with the nut. It is not critical.

I expect it is the same with the two screw MK2.

When your filament is slipping, take out the filament and look at it.

Is it gouged out by the drive wheel? If so you have too much resistance in the heat block.

Try cleaning filament or cold pull. Check filament path also. It should feed directly into the PTFE tube.

For anything else, we need more information.

Printer type, filament type, and temperatures.

On a MK3 (two screws) the tips of the screw flush with the door surface is where my screws generally end up when printing PLA; or slightly below the surface.  But it does depend on filament hardness, e.g., much less tension is used for flex.
