Crazy Horrible Prints - Please Help!!

Hi everyone, so I've recently assembled my new Prusa i3 MK3S+ and am super excited to start getting into things. However, even after getting a successful calibration, I've been getting some extremely weird benchy prints (see attached). I've tried models from different sites, changing the belt tension, recalibration, finicking with the layer height FOR HOURS, among other things. I've watched the nozzle stop moving and then throw itself wider than the the layer before it and I think that's why there are so many weird layer issues with the hull. I'm assuming all the blobbing and such is a related issue, but there are also some parts of the boat that print weirdly fine like the chimney and roof area. I have searched pretty extensively for examples of failed prints that look like mine and haven't found a thing, so if any of you have any idea what's causing it I would be so beyond grateful for your advice. If there's any better angles or photos I can provide or any questions you may have that I could answer please let me know. Thanks so much and all the best!

Noah

RE:

You definitely have some layer shifting in there.

Almost certainly a mechanical issue.

I would carefully check things like belt tension, grub screws on the X and Y motor pulleys, X and Y mechanisms for binding, general assembly quality and bolt tightness of the build plate and all axes, etc.

As jsw said, looks like a mechanical issue, something is moving when it's not supposed to. After checking and tightening everything it is essential that you revert back to the default settings because your "finicking" almost certainly screwed something else up...

Start with the default "0.2 mm quality", printer and filament settings in slicer, they work nicely with an unmodified MK3!

I agree with the mechanical, but you may have other issues.  Won't know until you correct the mechanical stuff.

If your nozzle stopped I'd pay particular attention to the X axis.  Is all the layer shifting we're seeing on the X axis?

Cheers

Hi all,

It did end up being a mechanical error, the screw holding the belt was not fully tightened for some reason which resulted in a bunch of play in the tensioning. It was a quick fix and the printer is now putting out some great quality work, thanks so much to everyone on here you were a real help!!! Very excited t start the 3D printer journey now that it's all in working order.

Best,

Noah E
