Connection issues during serial connection

About 6 months ago, I had the MK3 hooked up to Octoprint and it used to work just fine. Then about 3 months ago, I upgraded to the MK3S, but didn't reconnect the Octoprint. Actually, after I upgraded to the MK3S, it pretty much sat there for 2.5 months because I wanted to do the Nylock mod as well as start on my Lack enclosure and  I just haven't had the time lately.

Well, so I just finished the nylock mod a few days ago. I upgraded Octoprint to the newest version. I also made sure to upgrade the firmware on the printer to the newest version. I installed the Prusa Mesh Leveling plugin so that I could finish the bed leveling. Then all of a sudden, I started noticing issues with Octoprint. It would connect, the MK3 would startup the fans, then Octoprint would send something like "N0 M110 n0 125*8" (it may not be exactly that as I'm going from memory right now), and then the printer would freeze and the terminal became unresponsive until errors were returned saying that it couldn't communicate to the printer.

Anyways, I started thinking the problem was Octoprint. I did LOTS of googling, and then I thought, why not just hook up my PC directly to the printer and send the G80 and G81 commands manually.

I connected it, loaded up Pronterface and then.... I noticed that the printer was freezing again even when Octoprint was not involved.

So I tried googling on Prusa's websites, but I don't find any solutions that help. I tried replacing the USB cable, I tried an older version of the firmeware, I even tried connecting directly to the wall outlet (as opposed to connecting through a surge protector).

At this point, I don't know what to do. I can print from SD, but I would very much like to be able to print from Octoprint.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the Internal Raspberry Pi, port is turned off, on the LCD Menu?

I have. It's On. I even turned it off, then turned it back on to see if maybe that would help.

Should it be off?

the ras pi internal serial port disables the usb port so if you're trying to use USB, the internal port needs to be off.

OMG! It works! Thanks Joan! I've spent two days trying to figure this out, and then when I got your response I went to try it out and then I was having problems with OctoPrint starting up... I almost threw in the towel and gave up on my Prusa.

I'm not sure why that setting would be on though. I never turned it on. Is it normally on by default when there's a firmware upgrade?

Hello from the future. thank you @joantabb. I was having the same issue as RadTechDad. Somehow my RPi port became enabled and was blocking connections to the usb port. Disabling it resolved my issue.
