Cleaning bed problem

Finished my I3 MK3S build.   Blimey! - that chapter 5 on extruder build was a bit off a mission!  The trouble is that it's not that easy to see detail of orientation in the photographs.

Anyway it seems to work OK and passed all the self - tests.

I had a bit of a problem adjusting the Z nozzle height.  I ended up creating some really thin smears on the bed and the problem now is that I can't get them off.   They aren't thick enough to peel off by bending the sheet.  I tried isopropyl alcohol and acetone with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Try printing the same material on top of those bits with the Live-Z calibrated properly. It may be able to pull some off. If it's really thin, there may not be much you can do. You could try heating the bed up and using a plastic razor or other scraper.

on the power coated bed - rubbing away with an acetone-soaked cloth was working for me.

Except you said in a prior post the sheet is a smooth type - so it isn't powder coated.

RE: Cleaning bed problem

Since one year i use acetone on the same (my first) power coated bed an have no problem with this because i have not often this problem with thin layer. On the smooth surface i try to remove careful thin layer with a scalpel on the warm bed (careful!!!).

Note!

These notes are based on my experiences with the Prusa i3 Mk3S printer and the first PEI sheets which i still use.

Prusa has new production sources, so for further instructions, please refer to the current prusa description.

I am so jealous..... I thoroughly enjoyed the build of my first 3d printer.  My printer passed every self-test with perfection!!!  My bed is perfectly calibrated and level ......But my happiness stops there....  NOTHING prints well, even the zig zag test with the square at the end.  I am so frustrated and disheartened.  Nothing sticks to the bed very well and I have tried IPA, soapy water, clean distilled water, prayer.....I only have the textured metal sheet, I did not get the standard one with my kit...which I'm thinking was a mistake at this point, although I don't know why ....I could post photos of my failures but they just look like tangled thread on the table

You are already in for $750. Spend another $50 and get a smooth sheet for PLA. It is much better for a novice.

Your textured sheet will work fine - and it is the one you should use for PETG.

Trick is to scrub it with Dawn and copious amounts of water. Dry with an unused paper towel. Be suspicious of any IPA less than 99%.

Don't use IPA - just print a Live Z and get that right. Then print one of the pre-sliced GCodes like Benchy.

And report back.

RE: Cleaning bed problem

I print all materials with my textured sheet. Most problems result from a bad Z- first layer calibration or/and a greasy bed. Cleaning with warm water and/or isopropanol helps. Don't use acetone or similar. Cotton gloves are also recommended at work.
