Chipped X-Axis Rob

Hi Guys,

I received my i3 MK3S yesterday so I started the assembly today. When working on the X-axis I noticed one of the rods had a small chip in it (see attached picture). Is this something to worry about? I'm not sure if it could potentially damage the bearings for example or become a root cause for imperfect prints. Thanks.

I´m afraid this is a bad thing to ignore. It will affect the bearings and may cause a dislogding of bearing balls, ending up in a crash of the Z-axis, unless it is close to the end of the axis where the bearings won´t travel anyways. This is bad quality control on the manufacturer´s end. Log into Prusa´s website, get into chat with them (they are available nearly 24/7) and ask them to ship a new axis pronto. At least you should be able to continue building, as it should not be too big a deal to insert the fully built X axis into a fully-built printer.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks for the info Chris. I've emailed the supplier and i'll wait for their feedback. I'll have a look through the manual to see if it's an easy replacement later on or not.
