cant even get past switching it on.

Hi, new builder and 3d printer virgin here.

I have built the machine slowly and carefully. (I am an engineer so used to tech and tools.)

Q1 - is there a proper factory reset button anywhere? initially it ran the kit selftest but it wont do this anymore.

The machine starts then declares an FW Crash detected. All belts checked and tensioned well. Z screw rotate. It says contact support to submit details but there are no details.

It will sit in this state happily. If i click the knob, it displays temp 18deg, H 17deg, Z 0.15?, >>100%, 2 blank fields. This is followed a few seconds later with a beep and a restart.

Sometimes i get it to a screen that just says z - 0.2 and it almost allows me to adjust the height of z then restarts. Just once it even allowed me a brief glimps of a menu before beeping and restarting.

It all just seems a bit random.

I can hear both z motors chittering but not trying move.

I'll be honest, i wasnt expecting this level of a fight with a £700 printer!

I felt like i was playing arcade track and field trying to get to a menu!

With the x and teh control knob i have been able to occassionally get it to factor reset. it gets part way into a new setup and restarts! shame I want a 3d printer rather than an awsome auto resetting machine.

sooo........

After many restarts, and many button presses i got into the machine setup. after many restarts  the extruder bit by bit worked its way up to the top left (home?)

after a bunch more resets it decided to consider z calibration, a few more self resets and it is now trying to measure the bref heigh of calibration point 1 and its hung there. one bonus is that it didnt reset by its self.

Please tell me that if and when i get this thing running it will work a lot better than it currently is!

Have you checked all the electrical wires and connections? If you do not see any errors there, I would contact the Prusachat. It is possible that there is a hardware defect.

Prusachat: Just log in with your Prusa account and select the eshop. After a few seconds the chat window should appear on the lower right corner. If the chat window does not open, disable a possibly activated adblocker or try another browser.

Good luck!

wbr,

Karl

I'd say this is an obvious hardware defect, loose connection or broken cable if you are lucky or a defect logic board. This has nothing to do with calibration and will most probably not go away if you for some reason are lucky enough to get through the calibration routines without reset.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

You could unplug extruder, bed and motor cables from the einsy, keeping just power supply and display cables plugged in and play around in the LCD menu for a while to see if the printer keeps resetting, if not, replug one component after the other (I'd start with the mothers so you have more to play with) to isolate the problematic component. If your pinter displays the failure with just display and power supply you know it's the einsy or the display board...

RE: cant even get past switching it on.

Remove the hinged Einsy cover for better access to the board.

Triple check the LCD cable connections. Unplug them both at both ends, insure they are going to the correct socket on the board in the correct orientation, and carefully plug them back in, insuring they are fully seated.

Cheers

RE: cant even get past switching it on.

I’ve seen where the LCD cables have caused similar issues in the past so thought I’d mention that.

Power panic could be involved it please check all power supply connections at both ends for a faulty connection, loose or crossed wire.

Check the voltage of the PS with a meter at both ends.
