Calibration failed! Check the axes and run again

Hello all, hope everyone is doing well, I have searched for the my issue but have not found any hints on the issue that I got.
Upon finishing the installation of my Prusa I3 MK3 kit and when I started the calibration everything went fine the hot ends as well as the axis checking however when it started to run XYZ calibration and in the Z axis calibration it started giving me this failure message "Calibration failed! check the axes and run again"
I have checked the axes and all is fine I have even opened the top end with the trapezoidal nuts and re installed them and also check the z screws and check that they are not stopping the motors from turning.
any Idea what is wrong with it! when I go and try moving the z axis from the screen it moves down from the home position about 0.5 inch down and then stops. the reading on the screen for the Z axis for the home position is +011.0 and when It stop moving it reads +000.0. Is this wrong? since the other axises they Zero at home positions.

your assistance and information is highly appreciated.

Re: Calibration failed! Check the axes and run again

Good morning Abdulla,

when you first turn the printer on, the printer doesn't know where the extruder is.

You say that when you move the Z axis from the 'Home' position, it moves about half an inch and stops when the Z display shows 000.0

This is happening because the printer 'thinks' the extruder has arrived at the lowest allowable position....

It's protecting the build plate... (But since it doesn't actually know where the extruder is, the protection is happenning too high)

You mentioned the 'Home' Position...

'Home' is when the extruder is at the left hand side of the X axis, the front of the Y axis and the BOTTOM of the Z axis.

there is an option on the LCD Menu, to Autohome the extruder.
If you select this option the printer should move the extruder, automatically to the home position and then set that position as :
X=0.0mm
Y=0.0mm and
Z =0.0mm
this then allows the printer to know where the extruder is... and future move requests should work satisfactorily...
of course, if you turn the printer off, and back on again, the printer will have lost it's actual position, and need auto homing, again....

below, is a copy of the Slic3r Start G code

M115 U3.3.1 ; tell printer latest fw version (this is a Nag screen, advising you to upgrade your firmware, if it is out of date)
M83 ; extruder relative mode
M104 S[first_layer_temperature] ; set extruder temp
M140 S[first_layer_bed_temperature] ; set bed temp
M190 S[first_layer_bed_temperature] ; wait for bed temp
M109 S[first_layer_temperature] ; wait for extruder temp
G28 W ; home all without mesh bed level (This is the Autohome command, to ensure that the printe' knows the extruder's actual position)
G80 ; mesh bed leveling (This command starts Mesh Bed Levelling)
G1 Y-3.0 F1000.0 ; go outside print area
G92 E0.0
G1 X60.0 E9.0 F1000.0 ; intro line
G1 X100.0 E12.5 F1000.0 ; intro line
G92 E0.0
M221 S{if layer_height==0.05}100{else}95{endif} (this command sets the 'Flow' rate for your extruder)

so as you can see above, every time you start a new print, the printer heats the extruder and heatbed and then immediately executes an Autohome command, to ensure that the extruder is where it is expected to be!

I hope this helps,

regards Joan

Re: Calibration failed! Check the axes and run again

Thank you Johan,

I have gone through what you have written and want to make sure I understand it very well,

when I ask the printer to home it does what you have stated, X axsis to the left Y axis to the front but the Z axis it goes all the way up? is this wrong? I have also noticed when I manual move the axis by turning the nob they all move from the home position to the other side by turning the nob right except the z axis it is the opposite?

your help is appreciated

Problem solved it was a PINDA sensor connector issue

RE: Calibration failed! Check the axes and run again

I ran into a similar problem. The cause was because I put the spool holder all the way to the left on the top bracket, so it prevented the extruder from going all the way up to the top of the z-axis during the auto-home procedure.
