Calibration failed - check axes

Cross post from the 2.5 forum as this forum is much more active and I am hopeful for a bit of help.

Hello

Just spent memorial day upgrading my old MK2 to the MK2.5 kit. Was quite a day. Finished assembly and began calibrating but continue to run into the dreaded "Check the Axes and Run Again" error. Which is particularly tricky to trouble shoot. I have read the forum posts and checked quite a few things without turning up a solution. Specifically I have:

  • Checked the Z-Axis Nuts - All good and moves to top of frame
  • Rechecked the axes
  • Checked my hot end and heat sink fit, it is nestled in per the instructions
  • No filament holder (so no clash)
  • Run each axis from end to end...I only have a 3mm clash on the right side of the x-axis due to an older tensioning upgrade I put in. This shouldn't impact the calibration as it is failing way before that step.
  • Checked everything in this article: https://help.prusa3d.com/l/en/article/f ... sages-mk-3 - see below for comments on auto home.
  • Check that the PINDA probe is working

    After some thinking, I noticed that the autohome lands in different spots depending on what routine I am running. If I run the autohome routine, it gets the Pinda pretty close, but on XYZ calibration it starts pretty far away. I am speculating that because I am not autohoming properly, the pinda never picks up the signal.

    Not sure what else to do... I have taken a youtube of the autohome and was hoping the good folks here at the Prusa forums may be able to help.

    Unlikely that your problem is the same as mine was, but something to try. I installed new PTFE into the Hot end, and got exactly that error message. Now Calibrate XYZ first in fact checks Z.
    In case the problem was there , I loosened the screws holding the pieces holding the Z rods,at the top and those holding the Z steppers. (and I think also the trapezoidal nuts)I moved the X carriage down by hand until the nozzle touched the bed, tightened the lower screws, moved the X carriage to the top, and tightened the top screws. Then it worked!. 🙄

    Retired doc, should have been an engineer.

    Regrettably that didn't work, just tried this morning.

    After more troubleshooting, I think the issue is that the XYZ calibration does not autohome in the same spot the actual autohome. For example XYZ starts with X in the 0 position. Autohome brings the X to 12. On the initial XYZ drop I assume that PINDA is looking for a signal and would throw an error if one isn't found.

    I have no idea what to try to correct these issues.

    Quick Update:

    Managed to fix the check axes, I feel foolish as it was the black nuts installed backwards that has carried through my original build. I thought cause it was working before I shouldn't have changed, egg on my face.

    Now I get failure on the third calibration point. Here is my pronterface log of the calibration run.

    When I first set up my printer I was getting random failures during calibration and it turned out to be that I had the X axis belt tension way to tight. I loosened it up and it has been working like a champ ever since.

    if this is on a new build try loosening the lowest two screws on the x carriage back plate. (the one with all the wires coming through it).
