Calibration failed! Check axes and run again - RESOLVED

Hi Makers,

Spent all day yesterday assembling my Prusia i3 Mk3. Felt like a kid on Christmas day having received a Lego Death Star as a present, and promptly goes off to their room, shunning all socialising and food, to build it.

Started doing tests this morning, and got the mysterious (mysterious because it isn't referenced in the manuals) error message: Calibration failed! Check axes and run again.

What I discovered, was that I put the screw I used to secure the 623h bearing not the X-end idler, in to far and it was rubbing against the vertical support structure. I found this out when I raised the Extruder to the top, and it ripped the yellow warning label. I then noticed a minor scratch lower down on the frame. (see pictures)

Of course, you can't get to this screw once it is all assembled. I had to remove the top brackets, raise the extruder all the way up, and squeeze an Allen key in next to the threads. Loosened it a couple of turns, reassembled, and the test worked perfectly.

Enhancement idea Maybe Prusa could make the hole the head of this screw sits in, just 1 mm shallower to prevent people from putting the M3x18 screw in to far and scratching the frame.

Also, need to order a new yellow sticker. 😉

Here are some pictures to show where the problem was. Hope this helps someone either avoid an issue, or solve an issue.

Renee

You might post this (perhaps abbreviated) as a comment in the online assembly instructions under the step where that screw is applied. 😉

That's "MISTER Old Fart" to you!

Are you sure that you used a 18mm screw?
How did you manage it, to get that screw so far through that part and through the nut?
That schould not be possible because of the parts size.

Rufus - that's a good idea.

Kai - that's a good question. I'm 99% sure I used the right screw, I was very careful and checked every screw against the drawing on the package. But, it is worth double checking. I was hoping to replace it with shorter one, but the shorter one (10mm I think) was to short to reach the nut.

I'll double check I used the right screw before posting in the assembly instructions.

You should also check if it´s possible that you overtightend the screw.
That is what i accidentally did with mine.
In the mean time a printed a new one.
