Bed temperature constant during print pause

I am printing a clock face that has 2 colour changes at 10.2mm and at 13.0mm and have set up the colour change pauses at those points.

I am also printing on a textured plate that holds print jobs well during a print and the jobs release very easily after cooling.

What I am concerned about is whether the print bed temperature remains constant during the print pause while I am changing the filament colour.

If the print bed temperature drops (cools) during the pause I am concerned the job will release from the bed and the remainder of the print, after the colour change pause, will be ruined.

If the print bed temperature does drop during pause, can I also add in a g-code at the pause to set the bed temperature so it doesn't drop?

Or do I simply jump in at the pause and manually set the bed temperature under the 'tune' routine?

RE: Bed temperature constant during print pause

If you use the M600 command i believe the heatbed remains heated bot if you don't change the filament within  a reasonable time frame, the extruder cools... and the sounder continues bleeping if the printer is programmed to bleep... (default)
and the display says press button to heat extruder...   you press the button, the extruder heats when it reaches the proper temperature the printer starts bleeping again to alert you to enter the filament change process...

If you change the filament as soon as the printer alerts you, the extruder does not cool...
My last colourchange sat bleeping with the extruder cold, for a couple of hours today, the part remained firmly attached tot he build plate.

@joantabb

Hi Joan,

Thank you for your assistance.

The stops are M600 commands and I will try to be ready and quick with my colour changes so hopefully all will go well.

I use M600 quite a lot, it works well...

BUT Be aware that the printer changes colour, extrudes a bit of mixed, then new colour, and checks that the colour is correct before returning to the job in hand.... then as it moves back to the job, it ALWAYS squirts out a little more waste....

I don't remove the waste at all, I simply grab it with pliers or tweezers or fingers, then press the button to continue and as the printer squirts out the last little bit of waste and moves back tot he job, ALL of the waste remains held by pliers/tweezers/fingers... saving you from having to chase the extruder, or from having to clean off the waste later...

regards Joan

@joantabb

I have the habit, when changing colours between print jobs, of selecting NO a couple of times in reply to the correct colour extruding question.

I do this just to make sure there is no (or minimal) colour mixing, and I will do the same on my M600 colour changes on the clock face.

Yes, like you I watch examine the extruder for any oozing waste and use my fingers or tweezers to remove it.

Regards,

Ross
