Bad xyz calibration

I finally got the printer assembled and tried calibrating the xyz and it keeps failing. I've made it through at least 1 iteration of calibration but it failed on the second. I think I need to lower the P.I.N.D.A. probe. I'm hoping to not have to take apart the extruder to lower it. Does anyone know of a good way to lower it without taking apart the extruder?

Re: Bad xyz calibration

Loosen the clamp screw, but leave in place to prevent the clamp openning too far and damaging the plastic, wedge the clamp gap wider with the flat blade screw driver, and slide the pinda probe through the clamp!

Thank you, this advice was very helpful. I actually have a second question since I ran the calibration again after moving the probe it still failed. So I grabbed a level to check the levelness of the bed and found the right side of the bed is way higher than the left. I checked the levelness of the frame way back at the beginning of the build and everything seemed fine. Any ideas on how I can raise/lower the bed?

Re: Bad xyz calibration

Hi Ryan,

How are you measuring the bed?

usually the bed is located by the relationship of the assembled frame parts, (main frame, front and rear frame extensions, front and rear frame joiner plates, plastic rail mounts, smooth rails, Linear bearings Y platform spacers and your bed...)

and your X axis is assembled and mounted on the Z lead screws.

if the lead screws are out of sync, then running the X carriage up to the top of the Z axis, under power should cause one motor to loose steps, when that side of the X frame, runs into the top Z axis brackets. the other side of the X axis will continue to rise until it too, stalls against it's Z axis bracket. At this point the X axis should be parrallel to the Bed...
if it's not, I would initially start by checking that everything is assembled correctly.
for instance if one of the Y axis smooth rails is not properly bedded into the plastic retaining cup, the geometry will all be out.

I have three Prusa's and I have never had to correct anything beyond these tests...

however if there is still a significant lack of parrallelism between the bed and X axis, at this stage, I would initially have a word with tech support on echat...

regards Joan
