A Ghost of boaty in the first layer?!

Hi all,

Hoping you can help me out with some first layer shinanigans on the MK3s. I just built it yesterday. I could't get boaty on the sd card to print without lifting. eventually i started printing other easier bits with no issue but not before ding a first layer large square.  today ive booted up again and the first layer has  deteriorated and the ghost of Boaty has appeared in the first layer of todays print?!..

Any ideas? I'm wondering if I'm not trying hard enough with cleaning the print surface!

Is that the textured sheet? Are you using PLA? I had no success with that either. Then I noticed in the hand book that the smooth steel sheet is better for PLA. I switched and my problems went away.

I’ve not tried the textured sheet since but when I do I’m going to wash it thoroughly with dish soap first. I’ve read in other threads that cleaning it properly is the way to go.

Give the smooth PEI sheet a wash under the kitchen sink with lots of water and plain Dawn or your local equivalent. Use a clean paper towel to scrub it and another to dry it. That should remove any left-over residue. The 1st layer around the Benchy outline looks too close (Live-Z too negative) due to excessive squishing between adjacent extrusions. The surface should be smooth and even. However, the Live-Z square looks good.
