3rd print and extrude is making loud clicking sound

Only my 3rd print and the extruder is making a loud clicking sound and its under extruding allot.

I checked the extruder gears and they are aligned and tight. I checked the preasure on the filiment and reset to how the manual says. I did a self-test and everything checked out fine.

Could the hotend be plugged after only 10 hours printing since new and using the Prusa filament it came with? Whats the best way to check/fix.

Thanks

Raise Z to max, heat up to print temps and manually extrude some filament using the Move command on the front panel menu. Observe the filament as it comes out. Does it come out in a continuous even stream, or does it sputter or slant to one side?

If it's not even and straight after it flows for a bit, you may have a partial clog. It would be unlucky, but one could occur at any time. You might have bad filament that has been saturated with moisture, but that wouldn't account for the extruder clicking.

I'd suggest trying a cold pull to see if it improves the flow. Also try some other filament. If those don't resolve the issue, it might be something more serious. Other notes on troubleshooting here.

make sure the PTFE tube isn't moving. and tension isn't too tight on the feed gears. don't feel bad this seems to be an issue that might have 10 different reasons.

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.

Thanks for the tips. Ive treid those and it seems better without the clicking but the 1st payer is rough with lots of small peaks as it prints.

I set the Z to 0.800 and that seems fine when calibrating but as soon as I go to print it puts down a few lines then starts blobing on the nozzle like its not sticking to the bed.

Bed is very clean and I wiped it down each time with alcahol.

you might think im crazy, but try cleaning it with water and abit of dish soap. (like it's a dish) I seem to have to do that every few days, and yes it works better then alcohol, but I use alcohol around 5/10 times before I have to wash the plate.

it sounds like you are going thru the same stuff I went thru, trust me it gets better. I haven't changed my live Z in weeks.

I have also noticed some times, I will start a print, fist layer acts bad, I just stop it and try again and it just seems to work the 2nd time, almost like something needed to warm up more.(almost like the PINDA is too cold)

good luck, hope you get going soon.

I love how I can tweak the print settings during a print. I wish more things were that induitive.

So I checked the nozzle and did another cold pull with some PETG, I turned up the hotend 5* and slowed the print 20% and no more clicking. I was using the default setting for the falament but who knows maybe this batch was a little off.

Back to printing my Lack encluse parts. Fingers crossed. 😀
