Chose printing orientation for this object or help with support settings

Hello.

When printing this button collar/cover we are encountering some issues. We want it looking good and for the interface to connect smoothly.

We've had some issues with supports being hard to remove and leaving an ugly surface like in the picture below when we've tried a couple of different orientations.

These left one was printed in orientation B and the right one in orientation D, both with supports obviously.

Printed with Prusament PETG. So if anyone has some input to

  • Support settings
  • Printing orientation

To make this a better print that'd be great.

Thanks.

Try posting the object (needs to be zipped up to be attached).  Better yet post your project file (File>Save Project As) from PS then zip up abd attach your 3mf project and people can look at all the settings you are using and play around with the orientation.

I can tell you now that default support settings suck and will stick, especially with petg.  You need a minimum of 0.2-0.25 z separation.

Also what version  of PS are you running ?  As the support options are different between 2.5 and 2.6 for example.

First of all, i would print a temptower to optimize settings for the used filament: https://www.printables.com/de/model/20652-temp-tower-pla-petg-absasa-for-prusa-mini-mk3s-and.

Hey.

We are basically running all the basic settings included in PS (and we're on 2.5.2) for their PETG. Here is the .stl file in a zip: ButtonCover.

I will try tinkering with the z-separation and print a temp tower as well.

As Karl says much will depend on where the strength needs to be but purely from a printing perspective I would print it like so -

Project file attached.  Note its configured for an original MK3, so I'd suggest updating the printer and filament profiles to whatever you are using.  Without a project I don't know what you are normally using.
