Z axis fluctuations

Hello all. Question about the z axis reading on the lcd panel of my MK3.9 while printing. It fluctuates while on the same layer, especially on the first layer. The first layer reads from 0.4mm to 0.7mm and bounces all over the place. On subsequent layers it stays in a range of about 0.1 mm. I don't remember my mk3s+ doing this. I only noticed this recently after my 3.9 upgrade. Is this expected? My first layer looks fine to me. My memory tells me that the z axis reading was static before and reading a number that better corresponded to whatever layer you were on. Like 0.2 for the first layer and 0.4 for the second etc without bouncing all over. I might be confusing my read outs from my ender 3 though. Not sure. What do your guys printers do? Is this just the software adjusting for a warped print bed?

RE:

You are observing the real time application of the BML adjustments to account for the non-flatness of your print surface. This is normal behavior for the first layer.

RE: Z axis fluctuations

Ok thanks. That is what i thought. I also figured out that there are 2 settings for the display. One simply says "Z", and it does what i described. There is another called "Z height".  That one is static and corresponds better to the layer height like i was expecting.
