Print Fan Error msg

I’ve started to get a “ERR: Print Fan Error” msg and the print stops.  I can hit the “resume print” and it will start back up where it left off and some times it finishes the print and sometimes I’ll get that msg multiple times during a print & have to resume each time.  There have been several 3-5 hr prints which go without issue and the it “seems” on prints of about 6-7 hrs or longer I’ll get these print fan errors which stop the print.  Anybody know what is causing this and what to do about it? Right now I’m trying to do a 6 hr print and have gotten the msg several times already …

Disclaimer: I do not have the 3.5 or the 3.9.

This is when the board is not getting a speed indication from the fan.

It can be a bad fan, a bad connection, or a bad board.

You can disable the checking of this via the front panel.  I would suggest disabling it and checking to see if the fan is actually running or not.

thx!  I checked and both fans are definitively running.  I'm assuming there is nothing basically bad with turning off that check as long as the fans are running?

I've had false positives on it and I normally run with that check off.  The world has not ended so far.

I don't think anybody outside of Prusa has a 3.5 or 3.9 yet, so this thread was posted in the wrong section.  I recently installed the LDO replacement print fan on my Bear and I had to turn on the "altfan" setting in the hidden menu, because the LDO fan runs at a higher RPM, and I was getting occasional print fan errors and failed prints.  This setting just runs the fans at 100% without regard to checking RPM, and I haven't seen any further errors although I haven't done a large number of prints yet, either..  I am running the Bear firmware which already runs the hot end cooling fan at 100%, so turning on the altfan only affects the part cooling fan for me.

Thx, you’re right, didn’t realize this is not the correct forum. I’ll post over there just in case as well

RE:

There is probably a wire break in one of the three wires going to the fan.

If you are able to solder, make a new three core cable from the fan to connector.

If you can't, buy a new fan.

Example of the problem,

hmmm ... I'm not sure this is my issue.  I turned off the 'fan check' in settings & am running a 7 hr print and the fan is running without issue.  I also did a 6 hr print last night with the 'fan check' setting off and the print ran to completion without issue?

If you get the Print Fan Error message on your screen,

there has been an interruption of the voltage or the 'pulse' wire of the fan.

This means that the fan is no longer doing its job in certain places.

This can affect the quality of the print.

Turning off the control in the firmware only ensures that the printer will not react to the problem by stopping printing.

But that does not mean that the fan is working properly.

If you get the Print Fan Error message on your screen,

it is wiser to fix the problem instead of ignoring it by turning it off.
