Filament makes blob on nozzle when purging

Earlier today I got several Stuck Filament faults.  I cleaned the nozzle and then ran the Loadcell self test, which passed.  Before that happened, a filament purge resulted in a nice thread of filament dropping from the nozzle and curling up on the bed, same as always.  Now it wraps itself up at the bottom of the nozzle making a small blob.  I've tried more cleaning with a brass brush and cleaning needle, but no change.

Otherwise the printer has been printing okay but clearly something is not right.  Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I assume your filament is dry.

Check the nozzle with a magnifying glass - is it unevenly worn or damaged?

Cheerio,

The filament is one of my newer spools and nearly full. I tried a few others with the same results. I believe it's dry but other than keeping it sealed in its bag with the desiccant pouch I haven't done anything special.

The nozzle does not appear to be worn or damaged but it wasn't clean, so I heated it up and cleaned it some more, which helped it look better but no change -- still curly filament.

I've read some posts about cooling the filament a bit and pulling it out from the top but I don't want to damage the printer -- is that something to try?

I have a MK3.9 BTW. Photo attached.

Now I'm getting continuous Stuck Filament errors and I'm not able to print at all.   I'll be referring to the numerous posts on that subject and contacting support.

But any other suggestions are more than welcome.
