Octoprint
I have searched and searched online but cant figure it out.
How do i connect my octoprint loaded raspberry pi 3 to my new MK2s? I thought i should have used a usb cable but the octoprint/raspberry cant detect anything.
I wonder if my RAMBO board USB port is busted? I tried hooking it up to my windows 10 laptop via usb cord to update firmware but the updater software never detected the printer.... thankfully the printer came with latest firmware on it. 😕
Also my octoprint works fine via WiFi but only picks up ipv6 addresses... i cant get it to pick up a ipv4 address.
Re: Octoprint
first i will warn you about octoprint on a raspberry pi when using with a MK2s with LA enabled and using the pi to control the gcode fed to the printer verse using the SD card on the printer and controlling the gcode loading from the SD slot can possibly damage the printers stepper motors due to lag.
a desktop can handle requests faster then a pi through USB and will not cause a problem.
moving on.
first plug the printer into a desktop and make sure the printer can be seen via USB
this rules out the usb Cable and the rambo having a problem.
is this a model B+ pie or a normal B? people have issues with the B+ and the ready made image but that should of been fixed by now. I used a normal Model 3 B 2015.
next if you plug other usb items into the pi like a mouse and it doesn't see it then something is wrong with the pi usb slots, bad motherboard maybe.
good luck.
i no longer use octoprint.

Re: Octoprint
I actually don’t intend to use it for printing reasons but for monitoring and recording.
I will test the usb on the printer itself more thoroughly in coming days. I just got it assembled a few days ago.
One of the first steps I did after I put it together was to try updating the firmware. The program I just downloaded onto my windows 10 laptop didn’t see the printer when I hooked it up. But then I saw the printer was already up to date and forgot to further examine why the pc didn’t see the printer.
I’ll do it this coming week, perhaps I have a faulty Rambo board?

I use OctoPrint on 2 Mk2/S + MMU printers and a Mk3 with LA and have never experienced any issue of this nature. The only problem I had was with both LA and KISS Preload turned on and that caused over/under extrusion at various points in the print (start/end of paths). Running a Pi2.

I will second Peter in that I also use Octoprint for my MK2s-MMU and MK3. I have two instances running on a single Raspberry Pi 3B that supports both printers simultaneously with no issues. I use the API key of each printer to copy the code directly from Slic3r.
On your point of 'monitoring', if you initiate the print from the SD card you will have very little monitoring available in the Octoprint web interface. You can see the temps, but that is already on the LCD, and the Gcode Viewer will not show anything whilst the Terminal will display only minimal (useless) information. You can pause, resume and/or cancel prints. Also you can adjust the temps and turn off/on the print fan but these actions have about a ten second delay.
With regard to recording, you are limited to Timed recording only. Octoprint has no way of knowing where Z is.
With regard to Windows seeing your printer, you should plug it into your computer's USB and then got to Programs - Prusa3D - Pronterface. At the top of the program you will see a COM Port and Speed setting. On first use, by default Pronterface points to COM1 (as does Prusa's Firmware Upgrader BTW). You will usually find the Prusa on COM3 (Or higher if you have other devices) So select that and see if it connects.
Hope some of this helps. Let me/us know. Jerry.
