Y axis motor stopped working

Hi guys,

I have already contacted this issue through support however the response time through email is less than optimal. For this reason I have decided to post it in here again.

I purchased this printer on January 13th, 2017. As most owner of this printer I have to wait until March 7th to receive the kit. Since then this printer has been under heavy use by me for various projects.

(01/11/17) While the Prusa i3 MK2 was printing, I noticed that the y axis motor stopped moving in one direction (see it ). I checked the motor wiring and the endstop and they are all working. I then plugged the y axis motor to the x axis socket in the Rambo board and use the x axis driver to test the y axis motor. Under this configuration I can move y axis in both directions (see it ). I tried the x axis motor instead ( x axis motor on y axis driver) and the motor can also only move in one direction. Therefore I come to the conclusion that the Y axis stepper driver is broken. I contacted the support staff through the online Live Chat on this issue. They directed me to send this information to [email protected], which I did promptly.
(07/11/17) The support staff inquires me about whether I have tried to reset the printer or reflash the firmware, which I replied them promptly that I have tried both already.
(09/11/17) Fed up of waiting I contacted the support staff through the online Live Chat again inquiring them for an update. After about 30 minutes of waiting I was told that they have not decided whether this is considered as part of warranty and tell me to wait.

At this point I was a bit disgruntled as the board should be under warranty even if it is sold as a kit. For me I obviously consider the board not to be a consumable and it should not require replacement. Apparently it has failed within one year under normal operation.
If Prusa Research have made it absolutely clear which components under which operations would not be covered I would have rethought on making this purchase.
Now I just want to have a reply as soon as possible so that I can plan my next move.

Re: Y axis motor stopped working

When a stepper only moves in one direction, it it usually a sign of one of the four electrical connections not being connected. This can be in the cable, at the connector, or inside the motor.

Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage or loss. If you solve your problem, please post the solution…
