Y-axis binding

I'm just about finished assembling my new i3 MK2 and doing a few checks, moving things by hand. (Electronics step is next.) The X-axis slides smoothly and fairly easily. The Y-axis, however, binds at seven places along its travel and I expect the stepper to stall at those places. I suppose something is out of alignment. Any clues what and how to fix it? Thanks.

Re: Y-axis binding

Try to make the belt loose by one tooth. Does it change anything? If yes, it's most likely excentric Y belt pulley.

Re: Y-axis binding

Maybe a faultly linear bearing?

With the belt off does the pulley spin uniformly. Do the each of the bearing glide smoothly? You could take off the bed and make sure the frame travels smoothly with the belt off. Make sure none of the zip ties are catching the z-frame.

Probably the zip ties. I had the same problem.

Re: Y-axis binding

Seems to be the stepper. If I disengage the belt, the idler spins freely and the bed slides ok, but it's really hard to turn the servo. Something I should worry about, or will it go smoothly when energized? Thanks.

Re: Y-axis binding

If only the stepper my guess is it will be okay. I have another stepper and it does not turn smoothly when not under power.

Is there enough clearance between motor pulley and motor body?

Brilliant deduction, david.t2! That was exactly the problem. Thank you so much.
