Warranty

I have not decided whether to buy the kit or the assembled version. I am mechanically and electrically inclined, so I think I could build the kit.
(Was a maintenance tech at citys' sewer plant for 33 years.)

On the other side, this is my first 3D printer, and I know nothing about 3D printing, but would like to learn. Maybe it would be better to buy assembled.

What is the difference in warranty between the two? Is there better support if you buy assembled?

I also heard if you buy assembled, it is Signed.? True? Just wondered.

Thanks all,

Eric

Re: Warranty

I recommend the kit. You will need to be handy with this machine, and you will be much more comfortable with it if you build it.

Don't know anything about warranty. This is really a hobby grade printer, not a pro-work horse. (and priced appropriately).

This kit was my first intro to 3D printing, and it was an enjoyable build.

Re: Warranty

I would buy the kit and save urself 200 bucks. Ur liable to still have problems with both and the kit will better prepare you for fixing and diagnosing later on. As for warranty, the differences are listed here:
http://www.prusa3d.com/ at the bottom.

The kit says theres no email support, but i was able to use it with my kit. I will say, my experience with support was daunting with alot of unanswered questions and broken english, but i eventually got the parts i needed.

Re: Warranty

I'm a new owner and an IT guy and wondered the same thing. I ended up getting the kit and taking my time and reviewing the videos (and comments) from the website. Read the comments as they can contain valuable insight and tips that make the build much easier. First calibration came out fine and it was a good experience because as has been mentioned sooner or later something will need to be fixed or upgraded, etc. and having the build experience behind you will help greatly. Good luck.

Same in all regards! It was around hour 7 that I thought, Hmm, I should have paid the extra two hundo! Timelapse of my build process: But it was a good experience and the instructions were maybe 90% there, the comments made up the difference.

I would recommend the kit, because it forces you to become intimately familiar with the various parts and what they do. If you are the least bit mechanically or technically proficient, you should be able to build the kit in less than 15 hours.

Right out of the gate, my builds look fantastic. Second print after the Prusa logo:
