Treefrog Stringing W/ Prusa PLA

Hi guys.

Just finished put everything together last week and been printing everyday. Just have to love this printer!

However, the last few prints have shown a lot of stringing and oozing, ruining the perfection of almost every print. Even in the 9 point calibration, there's a lot of stringing that didn't happen in the beggining.
Tried to print the treefrog that comes in the sd card, which is tuned for this printer and the Prusa PLA that comes with it, and it didn't finish how I expected, as some parts are pretty awesome and others (eyes, legs and "chest") have quite irregularities.

Tried to lower the extruder temp by 5 degrees but didn't help.

Do you think that tuning the extruder temp and print speed would help, or should I print some calibration files to analyze better?

hmmmm.... hard to tell ?
did you calibrate your extrusion rate ?
and did you tune the pid parameters of your hotend ?

❓ maybe the thermistor of your hotend has a bad thermal contact... so that you'll always read a lower temperature as the hotend really has.
try to lower the temperature even more (after you've done the pid tuning, described inside the 2nd link above).
you will notice if the temperature is to low (the layers won't stick together then).

anyway, the stringing behaviour differs from filament to filament.... and personally i'm not very convinced about the quality of the pla that came with my kit.

➡ by the way, to avoid the nozzle-dripping and oozing during the calibration, Peter (PJR) found a good solution here.

have a look here inside the forum and use the search engine wisely. you'll probably find answers to a lot of your questions 🙄

Jeff's suggestion of PID tuning the hot end is spot on.

I put the kit together over the weekend and I was having similar issues with some of the prints. My nozzle temp would vary +/- 3 degrees during a print. After tuning the hot end the temp is stable and the prints have dramatically improved.

Thanks a lot! Will try to make those calibrations when I get home and check if that's the problem. I hope it is!

Calibrated and printed again.

It improved a little the stringing but there's still some noticeable strings in the legs.

Is it possible that adjusting the retraction length and speed in the EEPROM will fix this?

I had a rough appearance and some stringing on the frog when I printed it also. I printed a temperature tower for the silver prusa PLA and I have much better results below 200 C. The temp settings are built into the frog gcode so you could try either editing the gcode to set the temp lower or download and reslice the frog file from a site like thingiverse.
