Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

Hi All,

I picked up my printer last week in Prague, build it and am really enjoying it.
I especially like the feature that you can see how much filament is used.
During a print this seems ok (If slicer/Simplify says it needs 1m and it seems to be correct when checking on the printer DURING the print).
Only when i looked AFTER the print, it said after the first print 42KM and 05 meters or something.

So during printing OK, after the first print not. and hasn't been since.
Any way to reset this counter so i can try again ?
Since the printer is only 1 week old now and only printed a few 100m i better reset it now to have a nice realistic value then to have it off by a marathon distance (42km 195 meters 😉

I have upgraded today to 3.0.5. and this counter was still off / not reset as i had hoped.
Any help appreciated (maybe a firmware counter reset ?)

Ha, I can confirm this is an issue as well. I noticed this awhile back but never bothered posting about it. It would be nice if this feature worked though.

Thoughts from a 3D printing newb.

Yes, this is definitely an issue. Strange how is used to work very will in earlier Marlin versions.

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

Well, I have just completed a 30 hour print (third 30 hour print since upgrading to 3.0.5 RC) and the filament counter shows 3 metres used and a total printing time of just over 1 hour.

Also the date is displayed as the 8th July (guess what... I have the time and date on my computer, my phone, my watch, on the wall... and they are all pretty much correct).

Quite simply, why bother displaying incorrect information? Someone spend a lot of time programming the firmware to tell us something we simply don't want to know. Personally I would rather that time be spent on improving functionality.

Well i thought it was a nice feature, like seeing the time being added (and that works) it's just the filament counter that went haywire.
The rest works fine with me. So not only there is an error, but it's also inconsisent 😉

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

Peter, I had always thought that the date listed was the release date of the firmware?

My counter hasn't incremented since my first few test prints. I had assumed it was because I switched from using the SD card to OctoPi.

Toby

Thanks for the push in the right direction... It is actually the build date, which is why my dates change when I build the firmware...

Makes no sense that the firmware is only recording SD card prints, but again you are most likely correct.

I think the odometer is not kept by Rambo firmware, but by software which controls Rambo from behind LCD. And that software knows nothing about gcodes sent to Rambo via USB. Thats why odometer doesn't take them into account.

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

David

Apparently the values are stored in EEProm by the main firmware.

In the firmware ultralcd.cpp there is the code:

unsigned long _filament = eeprom_read_dword((uint32_t *)EEPROM_FILAMENTUSED);
unsigned long _time = eeprom_read_dword((uint32_t *)EEPROM_TOTALTIME);
uint8_t _days, _hours, _minutes;

This reads EEProm and displays the wrong stats (when not printing via SD card).

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

Well, my mistake. 😕 Then it is even more weird the odometer shows those nonsense values, when it knows (or should know) exactly how much filament was used.

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

Yeah, it makes sense what Toby said about it storing only SD card values. I think I did run a V2Calibration from the SD card a couple of times, hence my figures.

Hi !

Yes, I know, old thread.

But, is the counter resetable ? How ?

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

I would guess that a factory reset should reset the counter.

But nothing is certain.

factory reset ?

How do I do it ?

Then all my settings for calibration are lost too ?

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

Ahhhh, Okay 😉

Factory reset menu:

New factory reset menu is accesible by holding the knob after reset. In this menu are currently four items:

Language: resets language to english (default)
Statistics: resets total print time and total filament used
Shiping prep: resets Z calibration flag, prepare printer for shipping
All data: Erases EEPROM

OK, if I understand this correct, I have to reset the RAMBo (micro-switch on the RAMBo) and then hold the LCD-knob down until the menue appears ?

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

I believe you can just press the X button under the knob then hold the knob down, but I haven't installed 3.0.10 yet.

Re: Total filament Counter WAAAAY off ?

Yes, I tested this yesterday evening.

Press the rotary-knob, hold it down and then press the x-button under the rotary-knob. Still hold the knob down. After a second you see the "factory default" menue.
