Re: Titan Aero mount for MK2S

Can you eeprom this setting with M500?

Not sure. But in any event it's simple enough to recompile the firmware with the change.

Regarding the E-Steps, on reflection it should be OK; you will not be pushing more than 4mm of filament per second and the MCU should be able to handle that OK. I Occasionally have "judder" when I try to move the extruder too fast (but with no missed steps), so it is possible to reach the MCU limits.

Re: Titan Aero mount for MK2S

It looks like he's using the same belt configuration, so I don't see why the X axis motor needs to reverse.

However, it looks like the (non-mirrored) Titan extruder turns clockwise to extrude (facing the motor), and the Prusa extruder turns counter-clockwise.

Good catch. I agree it looks reversed.
Can the leads to the motor be swapped? This requires wiring in a new motor anyway.

Looks like reversing connection to Rambo driver does work.

Yes, swapping over each cable pair is the way to reverse direction.

I updated to V3 which should improve printing, mounting, cooling. I think I'll leave it here for a bit until I see how the feedback looks.

Re: Titan Aero mount for MK2S

Is it somehow possible not to loose this 3mm in the x-axis ?

Maybe. I might be able to squeeze it down to 2, but don't hold your breath. Is 3 a deal breaker?

The main obstacle is the extruder gear which needs to impinge the bearing space to get the nozzle lined up (which recovers the full Y range compared to the e3d solution). There's limited space to fit the bearing between the gear and x end. I could look at a new x motor mount but I'm trying to limit new parts and machine tear down. Another option may be to do 1 up 2 down config but I'm guessing there's a good reason PR went that way for stability and longevity which is why I left that alone.

Not really, but it's nice to have 250mm (or more). What is the limit ? Is it on the left or on the right side ? Maybe another x-carriage or x-end-motor/ilder will be nice ?

Maybe the mirrored version will be fine ?

I play with the idea of moving to the Aero, just because it is much lighter and smaller.

The other problem is the colling of the printed parts. I've never seen an good cooling for the Aero until now.

Uhhh, nice Design, but why do you angled it ?

I explained above. It's the linear bearing that needs to fit between the filament gear and end stop. The mirrored version is worse. I have worked hard to maximize the volume for weeks. I have not given up the 3mm lightly.

You are patient to construct this in tinkercad. I am working on some renders to show people but the tools are failing on me and I am working with support folks.

also do you have a render of the aero mounted on your mk2 digital model?

I added some renderings on thingiverse.

I updated the parts to version 3b. I saw a few places to tweak after printing, but overall they came out well.

Please send me feedback. Is anyone using this?

See update on thingiverse. There can be some minor interference you need to fix if you have the mk2s x motor end.

Re: Titan Aero mount for MK2S

I actually have a new Titan Aero sitting in a box here right now, waiting for the pancake motor to arrive, the one I ordered is the same Thomas Sanladerer used in he's review I think "Short Body Nema 17 Stepper Motor 1A 13Ncm/18.4oz.in 42x42x20mm Bipolar 4-wires" (from a german seller on ebay.)
Is that the one that you were planning to be used on this mount?

Sounds like the one. It's on amzn via stepperonline too.

I had some issues with the shipping, they delivered the ebay package to someone else when DHL handed it over to another postage company 😡

So in while waiting for this to sort out i found out E3D just released (?) a new "NEMA17 12.7N-cm - Titan-Slimline - Stepper Motor - D shaft": http://e3d-online.com/Electrical/Stepper-Motors/NEMA17-Titan-Slimline
I have one of these now, however it has a 26mm body length and I saw one of your fan mounts was for 25mm would that work with your design or could you extend it by 1mm?
And would this have any advantage or disadvantage to using the generic 20mm pancakes (still need to reverse the supplied cables i guess?)

There specs are a bit confusing. I suspect what they mean is the body, the black part, is 25mm. There is a 2mm circular platform around the base of the shaft. The shaft is 24mm. Sometimes I see people quote the base+shaft length which here would be 26mm. Anyway, this will fit Titan nicely. The body is as big as will fit with my design. If you have MK2S you will need to grind out a bit plastic from the X-end support (see thingiverse post). You will want the larger fan mount which has some allowance slop. Let me know if you need it tweaked.

The 20mm pancake motor is probably lighter which means less moving mass which may allow you to turn up print speeds a bit higher.

I measured the E3D NEMA and it is actually 26mm, and with the black part 28mm (53mm with motor and shaft), however, after test printing the Aero mount vc3c in PETG (E3d EDGE) and the 25mm fan mount in PLA it seems to have enough tolerance to mount the screws anyway.

The amazon/ebay pancake NEMA measures 20.07mm, 22.07mm with the round part 40.07mm and with the shaft, my digital calipers may not be the best but tried with two different who gave the same result.

First test there seems to be very narrow tolerance with the pins connecting the Aero mount to the X-carrage in my first test print, but then i noticed my extrusion multiplier was tweaked to 1.05 when following some tutorial for less stringing, so currently reprinting the x-carrage (I guess i could drill it out i little bit otherwise or sand the pins down.)
On The new Aero mount print the outer pins are around 3mm, and the middle pin about 3,4mm-3,7mm, does this sound correct?

My next problem is that i don't have the correct M3 screws yet (M3x25 if i remember it correctly, but might try to cut of an M3x30 if I have time before the ebay delivery gets here.)

Hi

I have not messed with stepper motors previously, so excuse the n00b question:

Should the only green/blue cables be swapped (I'm assuming these are data pins) and not also the red/blue (assuming these are positive/negative to power the motor), trying not to burn out my rambo board 😉

Interesting. 26mm should still just fit. Sounds like the shaft on the pancake may be a bit short. It will hold the pinion and tensioner fine, but I don't know if it needs to reach the recess on the heatsink. Anyway, let me know when you get the rest together.

The pins are designed to be a tight fit. I had to clean up the center pin with a knife to get it to fit well. I would clean the pins instead of drilling the holes. The aero mount is the easiest to reprint if you need to. If you get a clean x carriage print I wouldn't mess with it. The outer pins are 3mm and the center is 3.6mm.

You can use M3x30 instead of M3x25. I was just stating the minimum. I had extra in my bag. You will harvest one or more when you remove the stock extruder you are replacing.

I don't know. I have seen more than one place where people say to reverse the plug in the Rambo board which implies all the wires.

Ok, good to know that the new aero mount looks to be ok in size of the pins and M3x20 should work, the new x-carrage should be closer to the spec i hope, forgot to mention i checked the weight if the two motors, E3D came in at 163G without cable attached and the 20mm pancake with the short loose cables at 129G so there is about 34G difference in weight, still not decided 100% on winch i will try but the E3D might be the one I try as it looks well built and the shaft should be good in lenght, it also snapped in easier in the aero mount than the other.

I Will also change the Z-axis to this https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2002922 igus bearing mount that seems to be based on MK2 (not MK2s) so I will not have to remove the chamfered support.

And hopefully Peter or someone else can explain how to reverse the stepper cables.
