Three questions of a new (happy) user regarding the i3 MK2

Hi,

last weekend I assembled my new Prusa i3 MK2 3D pinter and already printed some stuff. The quality is amazing! I really like it. I previously had a Shapeoko 2 but the assembly was messy and it was loud, dusty and could not make 3D parts. So my congratulations to everybody who helped engineering the printer.

But I've three questions:

1.) During assembly I broke (more or less) the small heatbed contact cap at the back (black 3D printed part) because the nylon strip didn't fit. Is the STL file available so that I can reprint the part?

2.) The attached picture shows the bottom of a printed object. The top comes out very smooth. But the bottom is very rough. How can I make also the bottom smooth?

3.) I would like to attach a a pen to the extruder stepper to use my i3 MK2 temporarily as a plotter (to label some CDs nicely). I looked a little bit and tried using the Pronterface but I didn't get started. Has anybody any ideas how I can get this working?

It would appear from the photo that the Live Z Adjust is not set low enough, hence the bottom finish

As far as the pen is concerned, you would need to generate your own GCode (control code) probably via some third party software/

I really should lower the print head more? I think I'm at -0.850mm for Live Z Adjust right now. The manual calls for -0.640mm and I guessed that my value is therefore "high enough".

Hi Max. There is an stl on the forum for a modified heat bed [*][*]cover. Which comes out at right angles. Making the front to back length shorter[*]

In my opinion, if you are having to go more than -0.200mm for Live Adjust Z, you should adjust your Pinda probe higher. See this video for the best way to do this. You probably only have to adjust the nut a one or two notches on the top nut. If you adjust the probe too high, Calibrate XYZ will fail.

and an 8 inch (200mm) or greater caliper is recommended.

okay. I'll adjust the PINDA probe higher and recalibrate everything. Gets Live Adjust Z automatically reset during calibration so that it don't touches the head bed when I raise the probe?

But then it should work fine, right?

please raise Z via live adjust a little before you change the probe.
There is not automatic reset 😉

It is a good Idea not to have the hot end not touching the bed. Just to have the PEI sheet surviving longer 😉

please raise Z via live adjust a little before you change the probe.
There is not automatic reset 😉

It is a good Idea not to have the hot end not touching the bed. Just to have the PEI sheet surviving longer 😉

If you are using firmware version 3.0.8, the Live Adjust Z value is automatically reset.

Only when doing an XYZ or Z calibration, not when running V2Calibration GCode.
