Good evening,

the other night I sent a print, then I went out.

When I got back the bobbin thread got stuck, and there was a lot of thin filament around the printer.

I cleaned up and tried with a new print, but especially in the fills, the stroke of the print was dotted.

I tried to download and recharge the wire but it does not work well.

As you can see in the picture (IMG_3480) the gear that takes the thread, "scratch" and eat and the thread does not flow well.

I tried to tighten and loosen the two screws (IMG_3481)

The gear (IMG_3482) which must slide the wire, gets dirty and scratches.

During a test print, it prints, clicks and does not slide the filament.

I await indications on what I have to do to solve the problem.

Possible causes I can think of:

  • Bad filament - cheaply made or poorly stored filament can be crumbly and brittle

  • Dirty extruder gear - If dust (or broken failed filament, like is visible stuck on the gear in your photo) accumulates into the spaces of the extruder gear, it won't be able to grip the filament well enough to easily push it through the nozzle.

  • Clogged nozzle - If the nozzle is clogged, the pressure it takes to feed it through might be too much. The clog can be from dust or other foreign particles, or from plastic that burned inside the nozzle while the nozzle was hot but wasn't extruding.

  • Improper tension - Sounds like you've already tested both increasing and decreasing the tensioning screws though

  • Drag/obstructions from the spool - Make sure the filament isn't getting caught on a snag or a tangle
  • This could also be caused by having way too low temperature for your nozzle given the temperature the filament needs. The firmware wouldn't be happy with you if it didn't think the temperature was right, so this wasn't likely enough to put on the list, but you could double check what temperature the manufacturer recommended for the filament you're using there.

    You'll be able to get much more specific help if you include the details this is happening with: what filament, what temperature settings, and what you've tried or what problems you've ruled out (and how).

    Thanks for now.
    The material is the Prusa PLA coil that was supplied with the printer.

    But there is also the problem with a PLA PRO Natural White.

    Yesterday I did a test of a small object with LAYWOOD material and the print is good.

    So I tried a bigger print with a Prusa PLA filament.
    Well started.
    Then I saw that slowly, the gear that has to slide the filament gets dirty.
    This caused that the filament is no longer taken and does not flow. Even if the extruder kept moving, but no material came out of the nozzle.

    The settings I use are with the Prusa Control. I have always taken the temperatures automatically, based on the material that I imposed.

    Now I take great care that the filament does not have hiccups or grivigli in the coil.

    I fear that there are dirt particles in the extruder.
    The nozzle I do not think is clogged, because with the LAYWOOD material it works well.

    Is there anything I can do?

    Unfortunately, even the press with LAYWOOD started well.
    Then the same problem.

    The thread does not flow anymore. The gear becomes dirty.

    I sent a picture of the part of the nozzle ... maybe it should not be so dirty???
