Start of first layer not sticking

Hello all,

Recently I've started having an issue with my first layer on prints, I haven't changed any settings or filament. At the start of the lines on my first layer, the first 5mm or so wont stick to the bed and will curl up or to the side. After that though it will stick as normal and go on to print. This is most prominent if there are small holes for bolts etc on the first layer, but it can also happen on long straight sections. I've tried dropping the z adjust and while its helped a little I'm now getting the elephant's foot issue.

Asking others they suggested it may be the bed surface coming to the end of its life (I estimate this one has seen 2000 hours printing) and to try to scuff it slightly with sandpaper. This hasn't improved matters.

Any advice? Its messing up alot of my prints at the moment 🙁

Sol

I had the same issue a few times and it was always a case of bed levelling. My bed isn't completely flat to begin with so I try to choose parts of the bed that are relatively flat when I start printing. I also manually add bed levelling corrections in the menu until I get relatively good result across all corners and sides. Redo your First Layer Callibration and try to use something on the bed surface like Kapton tape or Blue Painters tape. Elmer's Purple Glue (dried at 50°C for a few minutes) seems to be just as good for me. Additionally try and increase the skirt loops before your print starts and slow down your first layer further. Check for wobbles in the bed (loose belts or loose bearings).

These are the things I've gone through to make my first layer stick well over the last few months.
