Thanks, did not know if the spool was smooth enough for the filament to pull during printing reliably without being centered in the mount on spools?

Yeah, it's fine. But improvements in this area are simple and relatively quick to do.

I haven't bothered, as my printers are just too busy.

Peter is correct, the spool holder that comes with the kit works just fine. The only thing that bugged me about it was the process of changing to different width/sized spools was bothersome as you had to remove and reposition the arms. it's a small thing, but it still bugged me, so I went looking for alternatives on Thingiverse and found this one I liked. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1194386

It's now a snap to change out spools and I've started playing with doing multi-color prints using ColorPrint since it has become so easy in the middle of a print.

This is the exact improvment i printed!

Love it and use it for every one of my printers. It also comes in hand for a few brands of filaments who have weird spools (Argos, MeltInk, and a few others) who dont fit on the supplied spool holders.

I find that the included spool holders work fine as long as they aren't too tight. I have a gap of 1/4"~6mm on each side of the spool. They roll fairly effortlessly, but I tend to have minor feed issues once the roll is at the last 1/6th of filament.

OK, as "proof" they are fine, here's a photo:

The Mk1 is about 8 months old. The right hand spool holder on the Mk1 is not quite loose (but not loos enough to move by itself) and makes spool changing an very quick and easy job.

My third printer is currently having an upgrade...

Hi all,

honestly I don't like much me too the spool holder provided with the printer. With flat spool sides it's ok but as soon as the spool have some "structures" on the side, like the one provided by PR, it's a bit messy to change filament.

So I'm using the same kind of spool with a threaded rod as axis that I designed for my usage, and that's just fine 🙂

That's the beauty of this, you can easily modify your printer to make it confortable with your usage, meaning that other choice are not wrong for other people 🙂
