Smootherboard to get rid of ringing ?

Did someone experiment with the MKS smootherboard to get rid of any ringing / resonance artifacts ?

Interesting. I wonder if anyone has played with this. Thanks for asking.

I believe the Rambo board uses A4982 drivers, not the affected DRV8825 drivers this is meant to fix. But that does not mean that there would not be an improvement with these additions. And for $10 is might be worth playing with just to see, especially with a known "torture test" to validate.

It might be worth printing the torture test on a stock PRUSA first and see if we even have the problem that it addresses. If I have time, I may print one and see, but I have a stack of projects that will need to come first.

Since my machine does not have the artifacts seen on the Benchy in this post, there is nothing to improve.

That said, I spent $10 to purchase them, and might play with them and report someday if I have time.

I have some now,

The Makerbase MKS Smoother V1.0
Just need to figure out the wiring or find some adapter cables for the prusa...

Does anyone have the exact pinout / assignment for the steppers on the rambo mini ?

so is it A+ A- B+ B- or A+ A- B- B+ ........

Did put one between x , y and extruder ( one at a time) and did not seem to do that much for my ringing at this time..
Still have to put them on all at the same time but did not have enough connectors to make adapter leads to fit them all to the mini rambo.

BUT !
I did put one on x and y at the same time and i could hardly hear my steppers at full power mode, in silent mode it runs jaw dropping quiet...
The stepper driving de y carriage is running way smoother.
The stepper driving de x carriage is quieter but not that much smoother.

will make a youtube sound test if i can when the connectors are in.....

I think they would be quieter simply because you are supplying them with less power. Exactly the same as High-Power mode vs Quiet mode, but by adding the diodes, the two modes you have are "Quiet" and "Super-Quiet".

Hint: there is a "High-Power" mode for a reason, and that mode is supplied at a power level that has been thoroughly tested.

If you want to try this, you can save yourself the cost of the diodes and reduce the power levels by using the M907 G-Code. But when you start having failed prints, please don't blame me!

P.S. I found the Reddit thread a little confusing; someone stated that the 1.2 forward voltage drop of a 1N5404 diode is less than the 1.15V forward voltage drop of the S3G diode and that when using a 1N5404, two should be used in series (up to a 2.4V forward voltage drop!)
