Slicing question
Hi,
I'm new to 3d printing. Have few question regarding slicing. I'm using Prusa i3 MK2 Original. I see that there are few options for printer profiles in slic3r. Those are "default", "My Settings", "Original Prusa i3 MK2 ColorPrint" and "Original Prusa i3 MK2 with ZHop". Which one should be used to achieve the best result? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Ruben
Re: Slicing question
I use "Original Prusa i3 MK2 with ZHop" only. I use that profile even when I need to change filament during printing. Instead of using ColorPrint application, I insert M600 command manually into gcode generated with ZHop preset.
Re: Slicing question
May I ask what is a ZHop?
Re: Slicing question
Don't ever use "default". This configures retraction to 2mm, which in turn causes frequent jamming (in my experience).
I also use "ZHop". I admit I don't understand what it is, but it seems to work better. Someone please explain ! (Thanks in advance).
Re: Slicing question
When the nozzle moves to another spot, with ZHop it first move a bit up, then move to its destination and only then move back down. It means that the nozzle moves a bit above already printed material, thus avoids scratches or colisions.
Drawback is the printing time is a bit longer than without ZHop.
Another drawback is that this behaviour confuses ColorPrint application, which considers Z-moves as layer change. If you don't use ColorPrint, you have no reason to NOT use ZHop.
Re: Slicing question
Understood. Thanks for explanation.
