Second Print - Some Issues
Hi Guys,
I've just got my MK2 running and after successfully printing the prusa logo test gcode, I tried the frog. I wanted to try a .5 micron test to see if my calibration was spot on. The first effort popped off the bed, but after a quick bed cleaning, the second print try had no issues. As for the print there were a few major issues. As you can see in the attached photo's the belly section was a washout, and the top of the his back had actual holes visible in it. The rest of the frog actually looked pretty good except for a few filament shards breaking the silhouette. I noticed that the cooling fan was not running during the print. Would that cause print problems this severe? I'm using hatchbox PLA. I haven't had any issues on my other printers with it.
The other weird thing was the Rambo mini had the red led lit after about halfway through the print. I had read that it usually signals a bad fuse. After the print was completed I powered down the printer and inspected the fuses, which were fine. It was pretty toasty in the case. The motors were also quite toasty, especially the x-axis. Turned it back on and the red led was still lit. I left it off for a half an hour, and then powered it back on. The red led was no longer on. I believe this is a overheating warning, so I installed some 30mm 12v fans on the door of the electronics case. It's got some decent airflow through there now, but I haven't tried another print.
Any places I should start looking to solve the print problems?
Thanks as always,
Nick
Re: Second Print - Some Issues
@nick.c2 I and others do not feel the need to add extra cooling to a Rambo 1.3 board within its printed case. I get perfect prints. Maybe the parts you used from other sources are compromising your prints, and your build is a bit adhoc. ie not a genuine Priusa I3 kit build.

Your fan should be running. I would check the connection at the RAMBo and make sure the red wire is closest to the thermistor connector. This should solve most of your issues.
Re: Second Print - Some Issues
Good point richard.l follow the build instructions.

Re: Second Print - Some Issues
Gotcha, will check the connection.
My kit is actually stock except for the PS and LCD. Everything else was ordered from prusa. Ambient temperature is a big factor when it comes to cooling temperatures, so I'm sure it being in my 25deg Celsius Garage wasn't helping 🙂
Re: Second Print - Some Issues
Cheers Richard, the connector was not seated properly. I used Repetier host to test the fan, and I noticed the red led comes on when it's feeding power to that terminal. I'm guessing its just a power status led, instead of an overheating warning. A little extra cooling wont hurt I guess. Ill give the frog another try and post the result.
Thanks for the help guys

I note from your photos that your cable management is not ideal. I would suggest that you redo the cables according to the manual otherwise you are storing up problems for the future.

Re: Second Print - Some Issues
Thanks Peter, I did rearrange the cables after I found the fan cable loose. That pic didin't have them locked in place with the zap strap as well. The good news is the fan seemed to be the problem. The second print is just awesome. Mr. Prusa you make a damn good printer! Now if I could just get it to be quieter...it's quite a bit louder than my other printers(davinci and prusa rework).
Thanks again for the help guys.
Re: Second Print - Some Issues
Good to hear that you fixed the problem and are as happy as I am with that printer.
Since I'm looking for a saturated orange filament... Which one are you using?
Re: Second Print - Some Issues
Hi Jan,
For that print I used this:

I've also used this brand as well, and it is a bit brighter. It's actually a great filament for the price;
