Reaching out to Canadians

Hello,

I'm about to purchase my MK2 and was wondering if you could give a fellow Canadian some information about your shipping experience.

Did you pay brokerage fees to UPS? How much did you pay in customs altogether?

I'm trying to decide if I ship directly or ship to the US and bring it myself across the border in order to bypass brokerage from the courier.

Thank you for sharing

Jack

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

I'm in Ontario and had the MK2 kit shipped. The total came out to around $1200 after $135 for duties/taxes, USD to CAD conversion, $78 for shipping and handling, and an extra roll of filament. Filaments.ca was selling it for around the same price, so that's pretty much the going rate, $1200-1400.

You can also buy from the Canadian distributor in Montreal. I did and was not disappointed. Very good and fast service. My printer was paid in Canadian dollars ($924 + $122 Tax) plus $17 for shipping to Toronto, Total at my door: $1064.12.

So no brokerage fees! Great to know. Thx

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

Hello I'm in Montreal.
I ordered my i3 "mk1" online on prusa website.
Everything was smooth (except for the import taxes).

But for now, if I have to order a new one (take my money !!!!) i will go to Voxel.
They are really cool and friendly. I went physically there a lot of times for filaments and other thing.

I have to interject that the CAD prices are a bit crazy. $949 for a kit? I thought that was assembled at first but went back to it. If you're going to spend that much let Josef and crew get you a fully assembled factory unit. I didnt know there was a "distributor" anywhere other than PR themselves.

Yeah, its that guy... 3D Nexus

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

699 USD on prusa eshop = 918 CAD
You have to add 15% tax + 15% importation fee + shipping

So 949 CAD is not that crazy

Here's a tip, complete your purchase in GBP. The Pound is so far in the toilet that the currency conversion comes out in our favour. I just placed an order for a kit, and my total in paypal was $947 shipped. Taxes on import are still going to sting.

Let me know how much you ended up paying for customs. Would be really interesting to know.

Mine bought at Voxel ended up at $1,033 all in.

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

I sized this up myself before I decided to purchase from Voxel Factory. The service was great from the guys there and the price was better than importing from EU. Also you get a spool of colorFabb brand filament which is sweet!
I'm unsure what brand Prusa3D sends but I'm sure its pretty good stuff as well.

Printer has been built and is working pretty well. Its like night and day compared to the Da Vinci 1.0 I wasted my money on when first getting into 3D printing.

Either way I would recommend Voxel Factory if you are in Canada!

Hi. I own 2 MK2's just outside Toronto. Prusa's US cost converted to CAD. UPS charge was approx $100 though this was billed about a month later on my credit card. From what I remember it was a $10 processing charge, the remainder was HST.

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

Hi all,

I bought mine from Voxel Factory also & was very satisfied with the service. I would highly recommend buying from them if you live in Canada. I reside in BC & the cost breakdown was as follows:

*Tax:*
GST 5.00 % 47.52

*Shipping:*
Expedited Parcel 26.31

*TOTAL:* 997.83 CAD

Included a free spool of colorFabb PLA/PHA, but unfortunately no gummies. Voxel contacted me before shipping to confirm what color filament I wanted. Great company to deal with.

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

I like voxel.. great people to work with

I think they batch up the orders so they save on shipping and pass that on to you guys.. when you order on their site, it's actually "pre-oder" ..

does the kits come with the filament from prusa PLUS the colorfab?

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

Hey Joe,

Nope just 750g of colorfab pla/pha which is a great material. The strength is pretty good for a PLA type i tested the strength compared to some XYZ ABS filament I had from my old printer. It was stronger than that strangely. I was expected ABS to be tougher but didn't seem to be. Probably just the filament they (XYZ) sells is as terrible as their printers.

Also you can get some Canadian made PLA from:

https://bootsindustries.com/

I just ordered some free shipping and a decent price it was on sale yesterday so keep on eye on the site for specials. Also support a Canadian company 😀

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

Hey

I would take no chances...Prague...is just the best experience...and Josef is the Man..

Why go anywhere else..Ordered in September..3 week back order..

when I ordered it had changed to 4 to 5 week back order

.$ 899.00USD, carrier $91.61. ($ 990.60)

Exchange rate made it $1203.58

UPS $ 167.77.

.So Halloween( almost 4 weeks) I got the unit..Assembled..of course. I own an M3D, and an i3 Duplicator Plus...

I would buy it again,,,if I had the room...or if I sell my Wanhao..

$1360.04...all in to Ontario, Canada.

I LOVE IT...And the SUPPORT is AWESOME..who knows better than Josef Prusa..everything else..well I don't know...Peace out.

Happy Printing...:)

Another vote for Voxel factory, the decision was even easier since I'm in Montreal so local pickup. The guys were great to deal with.

Re: Reaching out to Canadians

UPS charged me $62.24 COD for an Alberta (GST tax only) delivery on March 9, 2017. For the $699 MK2 kit and $76.29 shipping from CZ. Shipping took 1 week.
I was expecting more after reading this thread. 😎 black option ordering direct.
