Quality issues with overhangs

Hi!

Since a couple of weeks now, I have a quality problem when printing objects with overhangs... but only on the bottom part of the objects!

I've tried the default print profiles in both Slic3r PE and S3d and the problem is still there. I've also tried with the profiles provided by Prusa with no luck.

The nozzle is clean and I've tried different filaments at different temperatures, tried to tune the fan speeds, different speeds (with or without LA)... nothing seems to work.

I have the same problem with the Gcode provided with the official driver package.

The Z-offset is ok (the rest of the object prints fine).

I'm running out of ideas, can anyone help me?... please? 😐

RE: Quality issues with overhangs

Hi   luc-l2,

I also have the exact same issue with my Prusa i3 MK2. Did you get any resolution by any chance?

Thanks.

RE: Quality issues with overhangs

Those are overhangs. The printer is literally trying to print in air with little or no underlying layer to squish onto. You get round stringy extrusions as a result.  You can add support, but undersides will always look rough. You can try reorienting the part to reduce the need for supports. Avoid bottom fillets and use chamfers instead if designing part of your own.

RE: Quality issues with overhangs

Thanks @brostro for the quick reply. In my case, I was printing a sphere. The overhangs at the front side of the bed, which get the fans airflow directly has a nice looking overhangs. But the overhangs at the other end shows this issue. Probably it could be a cooling issue with the design of MK2 itself for overhangs?

RE: Quality issues with overhangs

It can be that the rear is poorly cooled. Turn the part to see if the problem moves. If so, it's partly your cooling setup.
