Prusa i3 mk2 evolve to Prusa i3 MK2S, like a pokemon ?

Nothing official, but have a look here:

http://manual.prusa3d.com/c/Original_Prusa_i3_MK2S_kit_assembly

I've seen interesting things:

  • new cable management
    new PINDA support
    New linear bearing attachment.
  • Looks like I will soon make some upgrades 🙂

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Ok, seen that kists ordered in January had this upgrade allready 🙂

But I don't see the new parts in the Github, did I miss them ?

I don't see them either. I would love to print the new extruder assembly and x-carriage pieces.

New post on http://www.prusaprinters.org/ titled Original Prusa i3 MK2S release

    Quote:
"We are gradually rolling this update to the production. Price remains the same and upgrade kit from MK2 to MK2S will be available soon for roughly $50. Upgrade will contain smooth rods, better LM8UUs, U-bolts and misc fasteners. We will provide g-codes to print the upgraded printed parts."

Is there going to be a reseller in the US or something like that?

For the printer the shipping costs are not too bad, but for the upgrade they would make it not worth it (especially as you can go and buy that stuff somewhere else). (Same issue with things like PINDA probe and heated bed for people wanting to buy spares or replacements.)

    I'm building mine (ordered wk2, 2017) and I think I have a MK2 + MK2S hybrid frankenstein.

Everything is in MK2 spec, ex:
    - Frame sticker says MK2
    - Y-carriage and liner bearing secured with zip-tie, not U-bolt
    - X-carriage plastic part is in MK2 design

However the extruder plastic part come with MK2S design, easily identify by the way it hold PINDA probe.
I got confused a bit while I building it and then realize I got a hybrid frankenstein.

Just use a few more screws/nuts from spares and you are good to go.

    First post 🙂

I don't foresee them adding a US distributor. It's hard enough for them to keep up with what they are selling on their own site and adding additional production to satisfy demand from a distributor would be too costly.

But, they have a reseller in Canada...

In any case, I'm talking only about things like the MK2S upgrade, PINDA probe, etc, and that should not really affect their production, as I understand it's limited mostly by the 3D printed parts.

I noted that the U-Bolts used to secure the bearings were "3x20x16 u-shaped bolt". I dont seem to be able to source these online anywhere in the UK. will items such as these be available to buy as spares, or does anyone ahve a source for these?

    Hmmmm ...

There is now no space left for a pinda-protector ?

Personal opinion here, but I really don't think the pinda protector is necessary. I have 2 MK2's with no pinda protectors and have never had the probe touch a print.

Well, but the purpose of the protector is not to prevent the probe from touching the print, it's to minimize the damage if it does end up touching the print...

    Exactly 🙁
It can solved by extending the size of the new PINDA holding system. Just enough to not be too near of the bed and to not have black part of the PINDA exposed. Unfortunaly, I saw that after printing the part...

I saw somebody having the black part (actually the sensor itself) falling on the bed. May be a rare problem in the PINDA itself. However, I think this can be improved.

Regarding the PINDA protector, I updated my version to make it thiner and it seems to fit pretty well now.

Many thanks for high reactivity, appreciated 🙂 But, did you tried it? I'm afraid the threaded part is almost completely unavailable when PINDA is correctly mounted.

mmmh, what is strange is that on the printer I upgraded to mk2S PINDA holder, I have more threads visible.

I wonder if the position of the PINDA on my printer is regular or not.
