Printing Wood Filament Properly
Trying to print Hatchbox wood filament for the 1st time. Used the PLA preset heat settings on the MK2S at 215c on the extruder. Had a jam after about 30 min. Cleared the jam and started the print again. This time I went into settings and put the extruder at 240c. The print jammed after the 2nd layer. I noticed that the extruder temp was down to 215c again. I'm looking for any help on what I am doing wrong. What is the best way to print the wood filament and how do I set the machine properly?
Re: Printing Wood Filament Properly
You can preheat the extruder and heat bed to any temperature you want, but once you start the print, it uses the temperature settings from the gcode file. If you are trying to print one of the preloaded gcode files on the SD card, those are all set for the PRUSA PLA filament temperature. You'll have to get the STL, open it in your slicer of choice and change the temperature setting there. Note that the first layer usually has a different temperature setting of 5 - 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the print.
Re: Printing Wood Filament Properly
Jams usually mean you need lower temp. I print Hatchbox wood at 215/210 and 210/205. (First Layer/ Other Layers).
As Philip says, the temp is driven by the gcode file you are printing from, not the preset value. But once it starts printing, you can usually adjust it as the file will likely only set it at the beginning and at the second layer, then it should stay till the end.
