Printer Froze 14 hours into print

I was running a program and during the 14th hour it froze. The LCD screen indicated no error and after I moved the dial it started up again. The print moved 6 mm out of alignment and my part was scrapped. I was running with the SD card the card is empty? I looked at my program and there was no M code to indicate a hold was applied into the program. What do you think happened?

Jeff

Is it possible that you had a mains power issue?

What do you mean"I was running with the SD card the card is empty"? Are you still using OctoPrint?

From my experiences with the Mk1 and the LCD comms issues through the ribbon cables, I just will not use the SD card to print. I have had 2 LCD panels and 2 sets of ribbon cables and the screen still corrupts occasionally; the SD card uses the same cables as the LCD screen.

Also, as I have overhead mains power cables I run the printers via a UPS which has already saved several prints.

I am not using octoprint? The card being empty means it holds 5 gigabites and I'm using a few hundred megabites. Are you saying you have your printer hardwired to your computer via USB to run? should I be using octoprint?

OK, so not empty, just the printing file on the SD card. Most likely a power issue then.

Like many other users here, I use Octoprint (OctoPi) running on a Raspberry Pi to control the printers. This has many advantages:

  • Web browser control from anywhere you choose
Option for camera so you can see what is happening
    Easy up/download of files
No SD card or computer required during print.

I'll just throw this out there, but if you're generating gcode directly from your app to your SD card, make sure you don't pull out the SD card before it's completely finished. I did this earlier on when I was just starting with 3D printing and assumed Slic3r generated gcode instantly. It pretty much was on simple models, but when I finally had a more complex and hit save, then yanked out the SD card, I only realized later when the print stopped half way, what I had done wrong.

I have my printer hard wired to my PC, I use Cura and it connects to my printer just great. I adjusted the feedrates according to how I like my print and I have had great results for sure. I use Makerbot desktop at work and comparing Cura to desktop Cura holds its own, and running DNC is the way to go. I am now experimenting with ABS, and Nylon. I have upgraded my nozzle to a 68 RC A2. I am getting great results.
