Re: Printer costs in Australia

hmmm... can't get the figures matching.

1st, let's assume that you're talking about a pre-assembled prusa i3 MK2.
it costs 999€, shipping is 117.58€. AUD/€ actually is 1.41 ➡ so your price will be 1574.38 AUD. Now when we add the customs and the security fee, it'll be 1806 AUD.

so there are roughly 100 bucks missing 🙄
can't believe that this is due to a rising exchange rate in between the last 2 month... seems that someone else is drinking some fosters at your beer mat.

dem inscheniör is' nix zu schwör...

Edward, I assume you got yours pre-assembled?

I ordered a kit last week and your total price is shocking to me! I hope it's not that much.

Re: Printer costs in Australia

My kit delivered was AU$1186. No customs fee or taxes as the cost before shipping was under AU$1000.

If the OP paid by Paypal, their currency conversion factor is always a few cents less then the going rate. When I paid for mine the real exchange rate was around US 73c buys AU$1. However paypal used the rate US70c buys AU$1. I paid for mine in US$ not Euro's.

💡 seems that should be something you have to take in account when you decide whether to go for the kit or the assembled one...

👿 and for the exchange rates: yeah, that's a way the banks, credit-card companies and/or paypal will squeeze the money out of their customers.

Re: Printer costs in Australia

I thought I'd chime in with an update as of Jan 2019 at a time when AUD/USD is sitting around 0.72

I purchased a MK3 Kit, so the listed price is $749 USD. My estimation spread sheet had the landed cost at around $1533 AUD based on 5% duty and a 0.72 exchange rate. All good there.

When I purchased the printer I used paypal who's exchange rate was a little less friendly but manageable 0.6859. Including DHL shipping my bank account was hit for $1218. Two days after shipment, the printer was in Customs. I called DHL and made a duty payment on CC for $248.35.

That's a landed total of $1466 to the nearest $.

I've not analysed why there was a delta so I am going to assume DHL's customs handling fee was minimal compared to the pessimistic $120 I had budgeted for.

Hope that helps.
Kev.
