Print stops mid-way

Using a Prusa MK2S that I have had for a few months. Printer has been running great, but now no longer is able to complete a print.

Print starts okay, but stops part way through. At the stop point, the fans are still running and the bed and extruder temperature are still being controlled (bed LED still blinking, temperatures still reported on display). The printer is still powered on at the stop point and appears to think it is still printing. The display is extremely sluggish trying to get to the menu item to "stop" the print.

This is NOT a power-outage issue.

I have tried all the suggestions in this thread without luck:
https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/printer-stops-mid-print--t3827.html

Starting a new thread so as not to stomp on the above thread's problem/solution.

At this point I have used 2 different flash cards, with gcode generated both by slic3r and PrusaControl on several models (most recently the loubie adalinda dragon). I reseated the connectors on the back of the display. The self test on the printer runs fine. Printer is running the latest firmware (3.1.0). I have at least a dozen bad prints in the last 48 hours (most prints stop within 15 minutes).

Anyone have any other ideas/thoughts?

Is your printer working okay still after changing to a new flash card?

You might try setting up RepetierHost (printing direct from computer) and not using the SD card (I assume that's what you meant by flashcard). Printing directly from your computer would might confirm the card being used is bad. Plus, you can actually view the gcode as it is being run in real time. That might help you diagnose the problem.

Be advised, Repetier Host doesn't like 3.1.0 so you'd have to downgrade the firmware or use a different host. Also, I'd recommend a Windows machine (or maybe a Mac?). I found Linux difficult to set up Repetier Host.

So I got Adalinda to print using USB (directly from slic3r, using these directions https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/original-prusa-i3-mk2-f23/printing-directly-to-printer-with-slic3r--t3864.html ), so it looks like maybe my flash reader is bad?

Looking at the problem further, Slic3r (when printing via USB) reports "SD init fail":

echo:echo: Last Updated: Nov 12 2017 11:07:38 | Author: (none, default config)
Compiled: Nov 12 2017
echo: Free Memory: 2158 PlannerBufferBytes: 1360
echo:Hardcoded Default Settings Loaded
echo:SD init fail
echo:SD init fail
